Wish I had gone up here 60 years ago. Yep missed that window also. Still happy I landed in SD.

Been wonderful here. NOT just Alaska.
High 30's to mid 40's at night, low humidity, to today...just into the mid 80's . Lots of rain interspersed. Just like the giant cedars and hemlocks love , that this area is famous for. Micro climates abound.
I do feel so sorry for everyplace else that is suffering. I wouldn't think of making fun of these areas, or thumbing my nose at all the countries , including our own, that are suffering.
Mtrapper could use some sympathy. AK has a lot of heat and fires , as last year attested to. As well as many other hindrances to life enjoyed. As long time locals have admitted in the recent past.
It's all a matter of cycles and who endures it in their time. Thank you, Victor.
We all suffer as people in these hard times.

I tried really hard to move to Alaska in the late 70's. Right out of high school I applied for a oil pipeline job on the north slope. I didn't get the job but a friend that applied the same time he did get the job and moved up there. He did very well, made his fortune and lived in the most beautiful state in the country.
I often wonder how my life would have gone if I would have gotten that job. All things happen for a reason.

Way less bugs in your face in SD I’ve been rebuilding our main deck on the house we seldom deal with one even with the rains but I do puddle patrol around the place and dump standing water out when I come across it. It’s been in the 60s in the morning and 80s during the day hotter next week.

I went up there in 1981. Spent 27 years. Lived in south-central (Glennallen), western interior (McGrath), southeast (Sitka), and central interior (Fairbanks). Loved every minute. Cold didn't bother me. Summer wildfire smoke and bugs were tolerable. Got tired of wearing a headlamp for 3-4 months every winter. Been down here in Idaho for 15 years: threw away the headlamps. Miss Alaska every single day, but I'm too busy to dwell on it. No, I guess I'm not ready to move again, but I sure miss the outdoor activities, the lifestyle of the bush, and my airplane.

I'll admit, your marten are "head and shoulders" better quality than ours down here, and quantities are generally much higher. Here on the continental divide, I've not seen 90 degrees (F) yet this year, and I've killed about 5 mosquitos all year thus far. Besides, the catfishin' and snake-catchin' is better.
