Anyone out there made the switch from peletized fertilizer to the folier spray...and whats your thoughts. Bag of triple 19 running $25, has me thinking of trying some folier spray on my brassicas. Most the dairy farms around here been hitting their corn and alphalfa with it for years, must be working for them or they wouldnt be doing it. Always looking for a cheaper alternative that produces good results...

Friend of mine has been using liquid (spray) fertilizer for a few years now on food plots. His property has 6 plots totalling almost 20 acres. He likes the ease of use and the costs, and he thinks it works/looks great, but my observation is the exact opposite. His plots look weak....they struggle to maintain growth. He used granular fertilizer for a decade or more and they used to look fantastic...not now.

Thanks Swamp, guess thats the feedback I needed. Im not looking to cut costs at the expense of sacrificing results....

Unless things have change considerably lately buying N,P and K in liquid form over dry per unit or lbs. has always been more expensive. We may have farmers here who use liquid fertilzer when planting as they can mix it with herbicides if they choose certain formulations. Most of the fertilizer applied to corn after emergence is done via 28% or 32% and that is injected not foliar. To put 160 units N on a corn field in foliar spray would be really expensive and lots of passes.
When one is doing a 1, 2 or 5 acre food plot maybe cost is not the major issue, what is available and convenient. Doubling the cost on 2 acres that is not being applied to make a profit from the outset is much different then trying t make a living raising 1,000 acres of corn.

Friend has tried to get me to use the spray. He's kind of guy that you can't tell him anything about such as that....so I just shrug off the encouragement...lol

As for the granular....dang it's costly! I just bought and applied 400 lbs of 10-10-10 to an acre of chufas. With sales tax that was $180. I can't afford much of that.

My food plot days may be coming to an end.....and I dont have but about 10 acres in 7 plots.

I bought a 25# bag of 20-20-20. I think it’s called Rapid Up. Mix 8# with 20 gallons of water applied to one acre. So I get three applications on that one acre for $42. It’s a food plot with white clover, alsike is clover and alfalfa. From what I’ve seen so far it is worth the cost.

This product can also be mixed and sprayed with glyphosate if spraying roundup ready corn or beans.

Yes, its getting costly, I cant help but laugh at myself when thinking about the amount invested into tractor, implements, seeds and fertilizer...all chasing the almighty whitetail. I could buy a lot of quality beef for that....but, the old farm kid in me needs to scratch an itch playing in the dirt smile

I paid 155$ for 350 lbs of 19-19-19 last week. I do spray a couple of small clover plots a couple times a year. I agree with you Midlander but Its my fun time on weekends and a good way to relax.
