Since there is usually someone on here that knows something about everything...

The oil cooler and transmission cooler lines are leaking on my 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 and need to be replaced. This will be the 3rd time for both of them. The first was under warranty and I paid to have it done the second time. Thinking of doing it myself this time. It should be the same for any 2007-2013 Chevy or GMC.

For the oil cooler lines I have watched a few YouTubes but most are of the 2 wheel drive versions and there is plenty or room to get the oil cooler lines out. From what I have read for the 4x4 versions it is usually recommended that you remove the driver's side motor mount or the front drive shaft or drop the front differential; or some combination of these. Anybody done this job and have any tips? What route is easiest to go when making room to get the line removed/installed?

The transmission cooler lines look like there isn't a lot of room either to get out. Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't have a lift available, just work in my driveway with jackstands/ramps.

Thanks

We do a lot at work. No need to remove the motor mount, and you might be able to wiggle the oil cooler lines out without dropping the front diff, it'll just require some yanking and cussing. You'll probably need to lower the diff for the Trans cooler lines though. Either way, it's not a big deal. You don't need to pull the driveshaft or axleshafts, just remove the mounting bolts on the side you're working on, and loosen them on the opposite side. It's not horrible to fish them through. Just raise it as high off the ground as you can and go for it.

And don't lose the little clips that hold the lines into the radiator.

What is causing them to leak?

It seems to be a common problem with the design. They leak at the connections between the rubber hose and steel lines. They have a crimp connection between materials and it seems to fail after a few years.

Just change them to hydraulic hose and the truck will be worn out before you need to do it again.

I was thinking exact same.

For by grace are you saved by faith, and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.
