Never been to a convention in my lifetime but one demo that comes to mind is the time i shot a young bull
Moose on boxing day. My grandpa and i were just finishing up with loading the meat into our sleds and he grabbed a length of haywire and pointed to a spot in the willows with no tracks or anything at all to base his decision on he just said “that’s where the lynx will come to the gut pile by”. Next morning I went out to check and sure enough there was a big male wrapped up tight to the willow tree.

I only have been to the TTFH rendevouz when they had the fall ones in Dublin, and the spring ones anywhere.
Al Barton, Wayne Derrick were awesome. But one year they had Martell Valentine out of Louisiana to talk about southern beavers. He was incredible and funny, my 13 year old butt soaked them all up like a sponge.

Gordy Berndt & von Straum doing a fur handling demo a long time ago. first time I ever saw a fleshing beam in use. Really opened my eyes. Bought a beam and knife right after the demo.

I sold fur as a youngin' to man in Eden NY. Can't remember his name anymore but after bringing fur there a few times he told me and my buddy " if your mom don't mine waiting a while the boys out back will show you how to flesh and board". Next three times we went there after we sold we spent time in the skinning and fleshing shed out back. It was the best demos of my life and really rounded me out as a young trapper back then. I still take pride in my put up and really enjoy my time finishing critters.

A few years back at a Nevada Trappers Rendezvous, at Beaver Dam State Park, the guy that delivered my wife’s 10 Camtrip cages gave a dang good Demo on Cage trapping.

I wish I have seen half the ones mentioned above but the best one not mentioned yet was by Eric Space and then MR Snare One, both from NJ.......jk

I went to Montreal fur fair in 97 and they had Tina Turner come and sing simply the best at the banquet. It was a fun time I wanted to go time all them skinny students in that were protesting out side but the guts I was with were scared.i don't speak French so probably would not have helped anyways. Could have called them Le canard du toilet .

As mentioned above..I can learn a tip or two from almost anyone that is trapline related.

Seen lots of good demos over the years. Most of the crew use simple, well constructed sets on great locations and are willing to work hard to catch the numbers.

I believe Charlie said more than once, that the animal will show you where to catch it if you pay attention to sign.

The best seem to have an intense knowledge of the animal they are after and how to best capitalize on an animal's interest (or perhaps weakness or general behavior) that makes a great addition to the set.

Location, location, location with a good constructed set and confidence in the set.

Wish I knew as a kid, what I've learned over the years.

I love watching animal behavior of furbearers in the wild or on trail cams. You can learn a bunch quickly.

Appreciate all those that share knowledge compared to the old days (70's) of secret info. Lot's of knowledge out there.
