The hint of the dawn evoked a wide yawn
As I rolled down out of my bed.
The morning’s mild chill most assuredly will
Ease my poor throbbing head.
The bird life outside warbled loudly their pride
At surviving another long night.
My newest young pup bounded out and jumped up
And licked me (but for once, didn’t bite).
As the sunshine broke forth I looked out to the north,
Then west and then south and then east,
And with nary a cloud to be seen I vowed
To enjoy my forthcoming feast.
As I sat at the table I found I was able
To enjoy the way it was set.
For the setting before me, no way it could bore me.
It was perfect as perfect could get.
The coffee cup steamed; tasted perfect it seemed
As I glanced at the magazine stack.
My ego inflated and I was elated
And in shock (my jaw dropped and went slack).
For the journal I saw had a picture of Pa,
Accepting the Nobel Peace Prize.
Imagine my pride as I read the inside;
It almost brought tears to my eyes.
But imagine my joy when I opened Playboy
And my girlfriend in her bountiful glory
Was laid out so bold in the month’s centerfold
And that’s not the end of the story.
The next magazine I’d not recently seen
It was named the “Business News Tech.”
And there on the cover was my daughter! None other!
Who was voted this month’s top exec.
And my only son Darin, who’d eclipsed old Hank Aaron
(now a star for the Boston Red Sox)
Was now batting six-fifty, a feat pretty nifty,
As he smiled from the new Wheaties box.
But the top thrill of all in that morning’s enthrall
Made me know that good times were just startin’.
No more problems in life, cause a photo of my wife,
Was the feature on this week’s milk carton.
