Nope, none of the potential horrors of trafficking kids besides "good ole" pedophilia. i.e. adults who like having sex with kids. The diversion of "drinking of kids' blood" to get a fix of adrenochrome is a standard technique of those who wants to slam the movie and/or overall making pedophilia "more normal".
It appears that adrenochrome is oxidized epinephrine, what most people call "adrenaline"-- if I remember from my long ago hospital work, Adrenaline was the brand name of the first company that created synthetic epinephrine. We all know what causes our adrenal glands to secrete epinephrine. People can fill in the blanks.
Back to the "drinking blood" discussion, I wondered if adrenochrome in blood or in a powdered form could survive the digestion in the stomach? Chemical molecules are either absorbed quickly through the lining of the stomach (e.g., ethyl alcohol) or its broken down by the stomach acid into simpler molecules. Given that adrenochrome appears to be already oxidized, I would think it would be denatured by digestion. But I'm not a biochemist and I doubt the person would brought the topic of "drinking blood" is one either.
It appears that adrenochrome has been out there on the edge of things since the 1950s, first in use to treat a form of mental illness and then in the cultural media fringe, such as appearing in the works of "gonzo journalist" Hunter S. Thompson. If it as a "drug" (Thompson talked about dropping acid (LSD) on more than one occasion) has been out there since the 1970s at some level, then its production and use must have some grounding in the truth that it is produced.
Then again, "Gonzo" Thompson and others who talked about it in the 1960s and '70s were probably just "conspiracy theorists" anyway...
