Danny, I'm pretty sure women got the right to vote several decades before TV was invented.

I am a person that is not in favor of all the cultural changes we have each generation but I don't want to go back to prior having a more fully reprsented democracy either. We argue about the rich and powerful of today but compared to the pre Cival War politics and even post Cival War with only an electoral vote system and only men and then only certain men we did not have a democracy as we do today. The more open and tansparent democracies become many times the more messy and confusing they become and that takes time for citizens to make those adjustments. We are at a point today where each side or partisian side has their own ingredients to put in the marble cake but we are fearful to let our ingredients go to bake a cake that is a real mix of who we are. It takes real leadership to govern from the center out instead of the fringes in and that is not just the executive branch. We are not seeing strong leadership at the Congressional level or the judicial level for that matter either. We all seem to be more worried and concerned about our own stats as how that impacts me and not contributing to a more winning strategy that may make our nation better. I am one that does not feel that government really is the driver to change a society or culture. Governments tend to pick up on the current trends or fads and go with the side that benefits their coffers the most.

The 19th amendment was before TV but its TV telling us what a great thing it is. How much traction would the liberals have without women voters? How much traction would they have if only property owners could vote? Our country was NOT founded to be a democracy.

I'm with you on property ownership. I would add employment and a civics test.

But this isn't Afghanistan. Women get to vote. Instead of ticking them off, consider them when passing stupid laws--for example total abortion bans. Most women were fine with restrictions but most are not fine with total bans.

They get ticked off over abortion, vote for a Democrat who they would not have otherwise voted for and the Democrat supports gun control, welfare and tax increases. This isn't too hard to connect.

Voting should be determined by taxes, if you get back more than you pay in or don't pay any fed taxes then no vote for you. In order to have a say how the money is spent you should have skin the game.

How do you square away the fact that a person should not receive any welfare but a woman can kill a child? In other words, why should one group of people have to lay in the bed they made but another group gets an out by abortion?

It's parents who are partially at fault as well. So many parents think they had it tough and want something better for their children. I'm as guilty as many parents. I wanted things to be better for my kids than I had it.

I got reminded of this when one hot summer day my youngest daughter asked me if we had central air conditioning back when I was a kid or did we just have window air conditioners?
I told her we didn't have either one.
She asked what we did to beat the heat back then?
I told her we used fans or slept in the basement where it was cooler.

I bet some of you remember those days.

I bet some of you remember those days.

Spent very little time indoors in summer(or winter)as a kid.
Was out swimming, fishing, camping, canoeing or hitchhiking to the cabin at the lake or driving cars in the pit.Spent the nights picking dew worms to sell for spending money, ran a paper route to buy gas for the cars at the pit.
Always had the tent set up somewhere in the bush just out of town and camped out almost all summer.Came in for lunch and supper, that was about it.

I dont think kids today have a clue what our lives were like and the freedom we enjoyed.
My enduring memory of those days was the screen door slamming.

Everything you've said brings back memories. We lived near the Mississippi river. My dad ran a bait business. So, if I didn't have to help him after school, it's was down to the river fishing. Summers were seining minnows with dad, or biking to a couple other fishing holes several miles away. As I got older, was in high school and had my own beater truck with the gun rack in the back. After school several of us went pheasant or rabbit hunting. I was seldom inside mostly just to eat. In the winter, we hunted rabbits, grouse squirrels, etc and ice fished. Those were the best times of my life. Tell that to most kids now days, they would say, "BORING!!!!!
