Thought some of y'all might find this article interesting...even if it is California.

I'm sure there is Pro's and Con's as with anything else when you start to play around with Mother Nature.

Sure, trapdog. I don’t know how abundant beaver are in CA but my understanding is that they are greatly reduced from the historic range. I think the intention of the program is good; it will keep more water on the landscape which has a negative affect on wildfire abundance. I don’t know how good of an idea relocation programs are but then again, if their beaver population is low then it’s probably worth considering.

Canucks should quit trapping beaver as it seems they are fire preventers, god knows they could use the help.

Relocating beavers to URBAN areas?......lol..lol..lol. Better put cages around those ornamental trees/shrubs. Oh, and keep in mind the tunneling...into banks that are currently lawns...no matter how close the in-ground swimming pool is to the water's edge.....and burrowing into man-made dams and under roadways......what a mess!

...to prevent wildfires? The only thing that won't burn in a beaver marsh is the water. Wildfire won't even slow up at a beaver pond...spot across immediately.

...to create marshes for other wildlife? Yep...they'll do that and turn small clearwater streams into quagmire messes.....killing any standing timber. Aren't there trout in those northern Cal streams? That'll end soon thereafter.

California G&F knows better than this...wth???

I know very little about trout. Only what I've read and seen in North Ga a few times.

Maybe those brook trout will make those Californians happy with those beavers. Lol

That's not much of a trade-off....a few little trout, for a ruined stream, and roadway, and lawn....

...oh, I forgot about the increased skeeter population breeding in that still water above the beaver dams and clogged culverts/pipes...

Yep, let's get a Fire Prevention program going...how many beavers do they need?

Forgot to mention, we have a no return policy... We have a gazillions of beaver here and it has not made much of an impact here not mentioning it is costing us a fortune to fights forest fires... Hopefully folks in California can let us know how well it works for them..., next of their list is a tree planting program.... too funny.

The problem will be when these beaver become over populated and start causing problems. The state of California (because they are antis) are not going to allow any real or meaningful management.

Overpopulated? Won't take but one, maybe a pair....and it'll get aggravating pretty quick...

I'm sure the cougars and bears will appreciate any transplants that come their way. That's what will become of most of them if it's anything like the pilot (beaver) transplant programs in Oregon the last few years.

Yea that's what every landowner needs is beavers. I have a stream that runs down the middle of my land. The low area surrounding the creek covers 22 acres. I've killed 6 beavers this spring because I was about to have a 22 acre lake. This policy won't last long.

All I can think of is Tierra del Fuego and what a mess that has become, I saw it on dual survival, I know they probably showed the worst but still it was a mess.
