I was little in the late 50s, we didn't have hot water in the house. Cold from the well but no hot. Dad took a couple of 55 gallon drums, painted them black and hooked and mounted them together on top of the well house. Well house as about 7 feet high as I remember. Some kind of pipe from one to the other and then a shower head out of one. Worked well, if fact, sometimes it was almost too warm for comfort. You take your shower, the you fill it back up so water will reheat. Obviously this doesn't work well in cold weather. By the time I got old enough to bathe myself we had hot water in the house. I need a solution for a cold climate but thanks for chiming in.

Do you have water lines in the house with pressure? You can get a regular water heater for propane. Do you have to bucket fill water into the tank, same deal, even if a PITA! Wood heat? You can make a tank that fits the back of the stove to heat water with, or make a separate wood burning unit just for the water. Good Luck.

I've seen a few advertised that don't require anything more than a couple 12 volt batteries and work with low water pressure. I was hoping someone here might have experience with one. So many outdoorsmen. Couldn't think of a better group to ask.

where are you getting your water from?
you could salvage one from an old RV or trailer
what are you using the water for
shower , dishes
how much will you need?
LP tank style water heaters don't need much pressure , only as much as you need to power your use at the other end but you may end up heating more than your need
and you would need to drain it if the cabin were going to freeze when your not there.

Posco do they unthaw meat in Maine , it is a common saying in WI but we take a lot of abuse for that and calling it a hot water heater.
I always wondered if the way these phrases were said came from Scandinavian and German language patterns converted to English
but I don't know anything about language so I keep wondering

It's probably my fault so please accept my apology. Thank you, Eyehi, I'll check it out. For the time being, I'll be carting the water in there in drums. I'm looking for enough hot water to shower once a day and do dishes.

I had a small D cell battery operated one that used a 1 pound propane tank and worked well. Stick the siphon hose in the water source and turn the burner to the desired temp. I stuck the siphon house in the ice hole in my wheel house in the winter and a 5 gallon bucket when elk hunting. I think it was around $100 new and worked for years.
I have nothing clever to put here.

I can't remember the brand but I bought it at Cabela's and it came in a red box. I took a Rubbermaid tote, cut the front out and added a cedar slat floor with a shower drain in the bottom. I ran a 20 foot hose from that as a "shower drain". If a guy were savvy enough to convert that to 12 volt and adapt the 1 pound tank to a 20 pounder I think you would be set. The whole unit wasn't much bigger than a 50 caliber ammo can.

I collect rain water in a 250 gallon ibc container then use a 12volt camper pump to transfer the water to the cabin ….. i hooked a camplux water heater up outside and put a t in the line so my wife can wash dishes inside ….I have a shower outside on the other side of the t … Thank you. I checked them out and it looks just like what I was looking for. Thank you all for the input.
