Is he hyper and can’t fall asleep without melatonin, yes. His little brain just needs a little extra help shutting down.

Does he get bored easily at school, yes.

Have we learned to deal with it, so far, Yes! And so have all his teachers. He gets “extra” work to keep him busy. Give him a little extra and the other classmates can keep up, lol.

Is he a little slower in some things and not in others, yes again.

Most importantly, when something goes haywire with our phones, computer, or TV, can he fix them, Yes!

I don't know the difference between the two but was diginosed with one in the 80s.tried meds again about 10 years ago. And wow what a difference it made. I had amazing focus 16 hr days at work were over in what seemed like 4 hrs. But the dose he'd to keep geting increased and I didn't think the long term effects on my healt would be good so I quit taking it.

My son was diagnosed with it. They were very silly questions. Do you not clean your room? Duh, he's 10 no ten-year-old wants to clean their room. Are you bored when things are boring? Well sure I am too.

They didnt know what it was in early 80 s. Made me sit in desk away from windows. Was placed in janitors closet before. S0 ADD or ADHD. I have had for 50 years. In my early years. Sleep? Whats that? Mind raced like crazy. BUT. The good was. It allows me to be SUPER focused on the coyotes im trying to kill !! I have laid awake at night. Couldnt sleep. Till i got up and measured OAL of a bullet and knew its bearing surface. Went for 2 night about 4 months ago. Thinking about a female coyote. I need to catch. But it all worked out. Caught her. LoL!

I was diagnosed as ADHD when I was a kid and pumped full of Ritalin and other meds. Nasty stuff. My mother would tell me take an extra dose if she felt I was too much. I quit taking it as soon as I left home at 18, and felt much better.

We had a cure for it in the 70's and 80's. It was called " wait until your dad gets home" or if dad was home it was called warming your (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman).

No such thing as all that when I was in school.If you didnt pay attention in class,,,no problem.The Old Man would find out,,give you a good swift swat upside the head and Poof,,you were cured.All of a sudden you paid attention in class.

for college I did a tech school 4 hours back to back 7-11 in the morning work from noon to 7 do homework , pass out wake up do it again , it was 3 semesters a year rather than 2 and I did a 3rd year for my bachelors in night school
work 7-3:30 school from 5-10 4 nights a week go home pass out get up and do it again.

I don't do well at repetitive jobs , so my job is go from issue to issue everything is a little different but all in the same scope of work.
I frequently get lost in the work and I finished my coffee and next thing I know it is late afternoon and I am not sure where the day went but I was busy all day.

Diagnosed at 50. Meds were life changing for me.

I know lots of folks who have opinions one way or the other and that's fine.

Telling someone with diabetes to manage it with lifestyle changes instead of insulin is about how it sounds to me.

I had a knee replacement by an ortho surgeon who was ADHD. Nurses followed him around and kept him on track. She had to remind him to sign forms and prescriptions. He was very gifted. Graduated from MIT engineering, then went to Harvard Med School. Remember he wore jeans and cowboy boots.

I am 50 now. Never been diagnosed with it. Didnt know what it really was till my 20 while dating a nurse. By then. I found my cure. Bourbon. Works. Well for when i cant sleep. I HATE doctors. Ant been to 1 sense 2010 for several rabies shots. If i ant bleeding out or unconscious. Leave me alone !! 99 % of todays kids dont need all this crap drugs and all these shots. IF you need a doctor and pill fine. Its your body. But these criminal doctors of today are just legal dope pushers

I can't do 2-3-4 things at once total hyper focus on one thing typically unless it isn't interesting then I hear everything in the room , keep up with the conversations at every table around me at a restaurant.
No it is not a good idea to answer the question at the next table no matter how much you know about the subject or how wring that idiot is.
why would anyone think they aren't being heard by everyone in the room is beyond me

my wife has to have 2-3 things going most of the time

she will have videos going while knitting , says it takes the edge off

I like to have music going while I cook, but there are things where I am working on something and Music can not have lyrics , foreign music are you kidding me is even worse because then I don't know what the lyrics are saying and they all sound like terrorists. and to some extent the music if instrumental can't be a instrumental only version of a song with lyrics.

if there is a TV on in the room I can't not see it my eye is just drawn to movement.

adds on the radio may have to be turned off or the radio all together if you want to talk in the car.

no window in school. well they put me next to it , I was quiet , but that was because I wasn't in class I was outside and didn't hear a thing in the room till the teacher yelled.

had a shrink describe ADHD as it probably makes you an awesome hunter and led to the survival of your line from dangers we just don't see in the modern world , always alert , hears and sees all the movement.

but in a world of do repetitive boring tasks you don't want to be doing, with distractions everywhere , it is not helping you.

I don't know what they have but the 2 kids next door to the south, and the 2 to the north all have something. Screaming and crying most of the day and night, and the 7 year old girl likes to strip and run around the front yard and street naked.

Drives my wife crazy... Some meds might be in order!
