I found this when I was in high school working at a body shop stripping the interior out of a 1965 impala.
I believe it is a tag that miners hung when they were in. But I could be wrong. It’s made of brass. I figured y’all may know.

Pretty sure that’s a miner’s check in tag. Years ago, we had a big plywood board, with hooks that held tags. Tags had the last 4 numbers of your SS number. When you went underground, you flipped tag so the “ IN “ was showing. When you got back out, you turned it around. It was a very unreliable way of keeping tabs on folks, as a lot of guys never checked in or forget to check out. The electronic tracking used today kinda made the system obsolete.
