What do you use for killing weeds on your lawns. Looking for a product I can buy off the shelve that will kill weeds only for yard.

I used to apply pre-emergent in early Spring and again a month later to control crabgrass and all weeds that germinate from seeds. Would not work in late July.

The 2-4-D suggestions will work now. Be careful with your application.

My lawn has never been sprayed, . I keep it cut usually weekly or depending on growth. We have a few hives of bees, There is lots of white clover, trefoil and grasses. In season we have dandelions, when other flowers and weeds as they develop. If you trim them , they are green and looks good, to each his own method. old 243

Also excellent time to buy Peat Moss, they will discount the crap out of it so they don't have to store it overwinter, especially multi bag purchases.

Never paid much attention to what’s growing….as long as it’s green and not poison ivy, I’m happy.

I have used 2-4-D for decades and yes it works well on all broad leafs, but won't take out crab grass. Not a good idea to spray your lawn when the grass is stressed say to heat or drought or both. Spring appllications work okay and fall applications for dandilions etc. work even better as the plants are busy storing nutrition for the coming winter. Late August to mid September depending upon where you live is a good time. Cooler, usually more moist and plants are growing well yet and storing nutrients.

If things are actively growing, 2 4d can be safely applied. You need to watch for float if the temp is too high…I can’t recall what the temp limit is. Morning or evening is best to apply so wind is low at that time of day to minimize drift.

If you have your lawn where it needs to be and over seeding isn’t needed, I suggest something like Strike3….it kills broadleafs weeds and puts down a pre emergent to prevent anything sprouting for 4-6 weeks.

One more thing…In heat stressed conditions, lean towards the low side of the application rate.
