Mix borax and sugar. Cheap and works good

Amdro is good stuff for ants, and you can get it at Walmart. As long as I ran the nursery the State required me to use Amdro to avoid shipping any fireant colonies to other parts of the Country.

I need to find out what the guy that sprays our yard uses. He comes every Spring to spray for weeds and ants. Haven’t had ants in the yard ever since he started spraying. It’s so good the ants vacated our yard and went to the neighbors. Now old boy has 4-5 yards in a row to spray, lol. We mainly did it to get rid of the stickers, you know shoes are an option down here.

Fill a sauce pan with about 3/4 water and get it boiling on the stove. Put a cup of sugar or a little more in and get it to dissolve and mixed up. Let it cool off a bit and pour it into a jug of some kind, milk jug etc. Buy powdered boric acid and put a cup of it in. Shake it up real well and go out and strategically pour it where the ants can get to it and your pets can't. I do that in about a dozen spots around the house etc.

They eat the sugar water, consume the boric acid, take it back, tell everyone where the sugar water is, they line up and take it back too... no more ants.

Try purchasing Termidor SC. A little goes a long way with this stuff. it's not a true pesticide so you do not need a license and worry about poising anything. it causes a virus within the colony. This stuff gets rid of anything with a colony. Best thing ever for ants. If they are inside, lightly spray around the perimeter of the home (it's not labeled for inside use), do not drown them as they need to take this back to the colony and all the ants will be gone in a few days, even the little mounds in your backyard will be gone. Even great with carpenter ants. Especially since you do not need to find the nest. Spray around even at the base of a tree, shed, building and they will be gone in 2 days. Amazon or WalMart has it for sale. But to answer the question, Yes the Powered seven works. But will not kill the nest, only what touches it.

I bought a pail of zinc borate to spray the logs on my cabin. It's a naturally occurring substance used as a fungicide/insecticide. I mix confectionery sugar with it in equal parts and place a bit anywhere I see carpenter ant activity. It works. According to what I've read, one ant carrying it back can poison the whole colony.
