Well, I finally got drawn for a MN Bear tag and want to fill the tag with something "cute". I think this will fit the bill. It is a JP Sauer underlever single shot with set triggers and express sights chambered in 32-40. The shot should be 50 yards or less so I am hoping I can see the sights in low light conditions. I hope to get it to the range in the next day or two. At 4.5 pounds it should be "fun" off the bench. As "One eyed trapper" says, "Pain is just an intense form of pleasure".

I have a friend who hunts bear with a similar single shot rifle chambered 45-70. He's killed quite a few bear with it. None farther than 30 yards according to him.

My guess is that it is a European "Stalking Rifle". The flip up long range sight is marked "200".

Nice, every bear I've shot has been with my bow.My last bear tag, my nerve was so screwed up I couldn't shoot my bow, left arm nerve. So I used my brother's 450 it worked well....It will be at least 2 more years before I draw again that bear will be shot with my cross bow left arm nerve's are still really bad.Good luck with your new toy, here's to a death moan if it happens I only get one in five to moan.

I have never hunted them intentionally before but I have got a bunch of advice from some very experienced Bear hunters. I have started saving up Green Treated lumber scraps as bait. It must work because they really enjoy eating the stairs off my deer stands each year.

So that’s a pretty awesome rifle, 160. I’ve always been intrigued by that caliber. Good luck filling your tag.

Nice gun in a classic Duke calibre. 4.5lbs is 1lb lighter than the Christiansen Arm Ridgline 7mmRM I picked up the other day……picked it up in my hands, didn’t buy it yet…lol

Nice looking rifle. How does that compare to a 30-30 or .308. Or is it straight wall.

It is tapered slightly but basically a straight wall similar to 38-55 with ballistics similar to a stout 357 mag load. It is an old caliber and far from a hot rod but when you punch 165 grains through the boiler room I doubt they will go too far.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Fine looking rifle.
Nice to see WOOD again.

As to the pressure treated lumber for "bait"... whistle

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo
