Never thought of people keeping snakes buying eggs to feed them. Makes sense though, if you can make sense of people keeping snakes. I sell all the quail eggs we produce, that don't hatch, for reptile food. I often buy more quail eggs, that didn't hatch, from other people, because I didn't produce enough. Quail egg that have dents, or that are to small or to big get sold to people keeping snakes from the Dasypeltis genus. Dasypeltis snakes won't eat eggs if they can smell waste products from chicks in them, because they can't pass chicks through the bone structure in their throat they use to crack eggs. Keith

Dang, learn something new everyday. Mom's neighbor gave us a dozen quail eggs. Seemed to small to fry, so I boiled them and put them in a pickle jar. Taste like miniature pickled chicken eggs.

When I had my pheasant and quail farm we had most times 1800 quail. Pharoahs, valleys bobs, gambles. Means Hundreds of eggs daily where I would sell on eggbid.com Talk about good in a gumbo

Keith are we talking about coturnix--- spelling may be way wrong------ quail or some other kind---- what kind are in the pickled jars down south in the gas stations ? I sell both coturnix quail and button quail eggs, as well as chicks through adults for feeding reptiles. I also sell rabbits, chickens, guineas and less often pheasants, geese, ducks and pigeons for making reptile food. The pickled eggs in jars are most likely coturnix quail eggs. They lay more than any other of the quail species and have an excellent feed conversion rate. For anyone interested in learning more about coturnix quail and related topics, the International Coturnix Quail Convention, Quailcon 2023 is on September 1st and 2nd in Miamisburg, Ohio. Last year there were people there from most US States and a fair number of countries. I was a paid expert and talked for about 10 hours straight. https://myshirefarm.com/quail-con-2023/https://www.facebook.com/groups/319405069672571/I'm teaching 3 or 4 Masters classes at Quailcon this year, including a class on the cull and feeder market, a very thorough class on many aspects of raising, selling quail and business practices and a class on rabbits and other small stock, to fill in for someone who had to cancel teaching. We have enough to keep us in eggs as well as to pickle some as well. Still trying to perfect my brine. I like em with a bit of a bite and prefer dill flavor to sweet or beet juice.
