I quit!! Squash bugs win. I’m tired of fighting them. For 5 years I’ve tried everything,, it’s like they are literally immune to whatever I throw at them. I’ve spent 100s of dollars.Neem oil, liquid sevin, dish soap, traps, organic control methods… the only thing I have not used is high end pesticides. They totally wreck everything. I burn all the leaves, vines etc every year and till. There’s nothing for them to hibernate under. I’m done!! I don’t know how you guys do it… or maybe I just lucked out with being smack dab of squash bug population central.

Get some mustang or warrior insecticide from a farmer you know it’s pricey but a little goes along way .

They attack the squash plant and anything in the squash family.. zucchini, punkins. They kill the plant

and they do nothing to keep the other insects from eating you alive , so then you and your crop get eaten.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

When I was a kid, we had good success keeping squash bugs away by planting marigolds right next to our squash, cucumbers and melons. We could not keep a plant alive into midsummer, before we started growing marigolds with them.

Must not have them here because the wife grows squash. She had some bugs eating her broccoli and I built a box out of abs pipe and window screen. Don't know if that would help you but it worked for her broccoli.

Yup...the bore beetle wiped out our Zucchini..summah squash....and cukes

Iam with you ...this is the 5 th year in a row dealing with these bastids.

Along with waaaaay too much rain and heat....we have a beautiful 6x10 chain link fence covered with green bean ...BUT ONLY GOT 5 MEASLY BEANS.

Ripping those up this weekend.

Our local farm hasn’t even had 3 days of no rain to hay their fields for FIRST CUT !!!!!!

This year has sucked for gardens.....nothing has fruit.

My wife has been laying boards next to the squash and in the hot day time the bugs hide under them. She flops the boards over and, well she has big feet.

First year we raised zukes........we were happy. Since then, bad squash bug and powdery mildew problems, and getting worse.

But I know of two commercial operations, and they manage to keep the vines alive so asked them how they did it. Both said you have to spray........both were using pyrethrin. One a sprayer, one a fogger. Spraying often and at dusk or at night to avoid exposure to honey bees. They didn't say how often.......wasn't daily, but sounded like it was more than once a week. Would think it would have to be ASAP after each rain event.

Don't know of diatomoceous earth works on them, but if it does, and if there is some type of scent or pheromone they are strongly attracted to (like those used on jap beetles), might be able to devise some type of trap to get them to crawl thru the DE powder to off them that way?

I struggled with them for a few years as well. Tried neem oil and it seemed to help, but you just about needed weekly applications. Then I started using Triazicide along with it. Now I apply when I first see them, and I don't see any more until the season is almost over. Seems to wipe out adults as well as eggs.

The larvae gets into the stem on the squash plant and kills it

You got root borers and squash bugs, the borer larvae tunnel into the stem and will kill the plant eventually, you can sometime save them by hilling soil over the stems, diatomaceous earth dusted on the stems BEFORE the borers strike should help but needs to be applied often. Squash bugs are darn near bullet proof as adults, but diatomaceous earth can kill the nymphs, problem is treating them under all that foliage. Finding the egg clusters is darn near impossible.
Butternut squash is more resilient , they don't like the bristly stems so much.

For summer squash, your better off delaying planting to try and miss the first wave of bugs, or just figure on removing the affected plants and keep replanting...or spray and pray...
