Clean the area pretty aggressively. Get a ozone generator to clean up lingering smells in the air. Edenpure has a good sale going on their air purifiers which use ozone right now.

A close friend had nasty mouse smell in his pickup. Bought an ozone generator and was amazed how well that worked. Said you don't want to be around it or get it close to electronics.

As stated clean the area and remove all melted down carcass solids. We use several types of treatments for odor control, Ozone is one of them. They aren't cheap to buy for consumer use but are available. We have the commercial models for chronic large area odor control. You still need to find and remove the odor source if possible.

We use several types of airborne odor treatments. It depends on some factors. However, if you can access the decayed rodent and remove it, it is much easier to get good odor control.

If the carcass is in a wall or ceiling it can take longer for the odor to subside and dissapate if it cannot be located.

We use a product that you can buy on line from "Do it Yourseld Pest Control". This product is a good sized bag that you remove from a plastic bag and hang in the area of the odor contamination. If the odor is bad in several rooms you will need to buy a couple of bags. They work very well.

It is called Earth Care Odor Remover Bag.

Don't spray any other odor products in the air when using them like Lysol or any other odor fragrances as it will affect the odor bags ability to absorb the airborne contaminants effectively.

They are about $20 a bag as I recall the last we purchased.

Since the smell is very bad, there's a good chance your refrigerator drip pan needs cleaned.

Rodent decomposition can be quite pungent and lingering. We have been in some pretty bad smelling homes and mobile homes over the years. Some where the consumer decided they would take care of their own rodent problems and put rodenticide baits out without realizing the consequences.

Something new on the market called Poof, might give it a try and let us know.
