Come opening day I’ll be interested to see who’s still beaching on here and who’s actually going to set a trap or two. 😆 November 1st for me and you can bet I’ll be setting at least 250-300 traps.

Lots of fires up here. Unburned areas are going to be loaded with fur this winter

Been trapping year round for over 30 years. Good money in the nuisance biz. For fur trapping, fox opens sept 15,beaver rats and otter,Oct 5,Mink Oct 15,all other land fur Oct 25. I start Oct 15 for water fur and roll from there. The early beaver kick starts my winter bait supply, and gets rid of the problem beaver flooding the bike trails. A great time to be out on the land.

November first for fur season, but many critters (coyote, fox, beaver, nutria, skunk, etc.) are year around.
I definitely will NOT be setting 200 traps. I have in the past, but now I'll happily run 20 traps.

I tend to trap on an as needed base for problems on the farm so thats year round as the problems arise Fur trapping well never got to being good or even ok at fleshing. Can't find anyone to do it and I don't have time to mess with it. So when I start tossing fur I took time to skin I don't bother with it anymore. Toss them in the dead pit and another varmint is gone.
I have no interest in spending my limited amount of time at home tearing up hides worth a few dollars at most . I would gladly pay to have it put up so it's not a wast and send it off to be tuned but can't find anyone interested. So I don't trap other than on my farm for varmints. And don't full with skinning . Now if I were home daily not traveling for work and only home 8 to 10 days a month and behind on everything I would play with fleshing again. But my limited time is better spent doing other things.
Guess I'm not much of a trapper.
I thought you had sons?

I thought you had sons? I do. They need a teacher and I'm not qualified on the fleshing. Catching and skinning no problem. Fleshing nope takes to long. Get one ok the next the hair falls out or gets ripped up. Not worth my time. Some weeks this year I have only be home 15hrs. So my time is better spent on other things.

Give them the skins and tell them they can have the money from selling them if they put them up. If you're not spoiling them rotten, they'll dive on that.

Yottrapper that was the plan. Have them tanned then sell them giving the boys all the cash to get them more excited about trapping like that would be possible to get them more into it. Not enough profit in selling them in the fur market for time spent so value added was the plan. But it didn't get to far.
I fleshed out a deer hide last year hair on. Deer are pretty easy. Then the 2nd one I thought needed taken down more but the hair was falling out so apparently I had done to much.
And yes the boys are spoiled on some things not on others. No video games in the house, but they have lots of hunting gear, bows, x bows, guns, knifes, throwing knifes/hattchets, chain saws, mowers, and other tools. No, you said YOU fleshed this or that. Give them a raw hide and tell THEM to flesh it. Even if you pay them more that the worth... they'll learn what you didn't have the time to.

'Rats, when they are worth something, Oct 15 w freeze up early Nov. so got about 2 1/2 wks to get them. Mk - when they worth something Nov. 1. Long hair opens Nov 1 but try to hold off til Nov 15 for better chance get hvy vs semi grade. Bvr Oct 15 but try hold off to Nov 1 to get better chance hvy vs semi grade. Fine line between semi and hvy grade and freeze up and more work trapping under ice w every yr a bit different for snow and freeze up. No RTL's around here too so some places gotta get gear out early due to competition. We had a big 12 year argument w govt from '97 - 2009 to get long hair moved from Oct 15 to Nov 1. Too many idiots wanted to trap crap long hair fur cause a bit easier to trap in Oct and govt ppl just so ignorant but we won in the end. Was a big problem w no RTL's and lots of competition. I lead the charge on that one and takes a toll on ur head fighting stupid cause stupid can not be fixed.
