Zim hit the motherload of these while doing a survey yesterday. We went back for more today.

We were not familiar with them, but apparently lots of friends are and folks sell them at the local farmer's market. Here are a couple of articles Zim found:

https://www.mushroom-appreciation.c...ml#yellow-oyster-mushroom-identification
https://modernfarmer.com/2023/05/is-your-favorite-new-mushroom-eradicating-native-mushroom-species/

Apparently they are a non-native species that got here somehow and really took off in Southern Wisconsin. They are delicious.

Interesting stuff. (Awaiting comment from Hodagtrapper.)

They are good especially if you harvest them before the bugs help themselves.

I should have a mess of them in the pearl oyster variety this fall from our logs. They are very good eating.

So some poor sap is paying Zim to run lines and set pipe while in reality he is picking mushrooms? Good plan. laugh

Last time I read that book I was wearing bell bottoms, a tie-dyed t-shirt, and was listening to Black Sabbath. grin

I talked to the lady from UW doing the research project on the golden oyster. Interesting.

My mushroom logs grow a bunch every year. I am waiting for them to sprout as we speak.
