Strange that you asked this question today. I am driving to the VA hospital in Augusta to have my new Phonak aids adjusted. This is my second pair. The first pair was about seven years old and my ears itched when I wore them. Got a different pair now. Much better. Connect to my cell phone.

Ain’t cheap however. VA price is a deal.

I can't advise you on brand. I can advise you to spend the time to find a hearing aid that you can comfortably wear and use all the time.

My paternal grandfather, who is deceased now, my father and 4 older friends have hearing aids and because of discomfort issues, seldom wore or wear them. Anytime I would call any of them or stop in, they would have to go put their hearing aids in so we could talk. My dad finally found a comfortable hearing aid, after probably having half a dozen, that he consistently wears.

I have the phonak and love them. They are pricey. After getting hearing aids I can’t imagine not having them. I’ve heard good things about Costco and Sam’s H Aids. The key is getting them set up correctly.

I'm watching this becuse I need some. I when rarely watch TV the volume is up very high or I put subtitles on when it's late and the family is in bed.

I can't tell where thet turkey is gobbling from direction wise, I can't hear the squirls or deer. I really need to correct that. I also want them to connect with blue tooth and be impulse noise blocking. Ie can shoot with them and not need ear plugs.

I’m as deaf as they come that’s why they invented close captioning . I use Walkers game ears hunting like to hear all the different sounds I can’t hear anymore , had one pair of Beltones years ago and I won’t waste my money anymore

They are NOT the miracle many think they are. Every 5 years I get a new set through the VA as my hearing damage is service connected.Hearing a squirrel in the leaves can be confusing as far as direction or any noise for that matter as the hearing damage isn't the same in both ears.

Trouble separating noise from what you want to hear doesn't improve with the use of hearing aids. Providence Farm they make aids like that. mine has a separate unit that sits beside the TV and broadcasts to your aids. You adjust the volume with your aids. Once the loss starts the loss compounds and never gets better as it is nerve damage. Learn to guard what you still have.

I’m also watching this thread because I’m borderline needing some assistance in the hearing department. I’m currently using shokz bone conduction headphones for my phone calls and they work great for me. The tv has to be turned up for me and I’m growing tired of my wife complaining that the tv is too loud.

I got my last ones at Costco. Cost me $1700 and free hearing test. I'm pleased with them. The set before that were $ 4200. The Costco ones are just as good for a fraction of the cost

My hearing was very bad,I got badgered into getting hearing aids by the wife, but I knew I needed them.
My hearing was so bad I didnt want to go out to socialize anymore cause I couldnt make out what people were saying.
I went to an audiologist for a hearing test. She said the way my hearing deficit was, that I would benefit from hearing aids.
I had lost the ability to hear high and some mid range sounds,so everything sounded muffled.
The audiologist said my hearing was most likely job related and gave me some papers to apply to workers compensation to cover the costs.
I applied and got a call back in a couple days, then some further correspondence in the mail.
They said I would be fully covered and not only that I would recieve a pretty good lump of money on top since it was considered a permanent disability work related.
Long story short, the audiologist worked with me to get the best type of hearing aid for me and went thru some tests during the adjustments over a couple months to get the aids to work correctly for my hearing loss.
When I got the hearing aids I was amazed,I could clearly hear things that I hadnt heard for years, like the sound of my shoes on the floor when I walked and tons of other sounds I did not realize I had not been hearing.

They are great, the best thing I ever did and I wear them all the time.

So I would say-get a hearing test from a real audiologist, check out workers comp if you think the loss is work related and get some good rechargeable hearing aids.

Wife had the Cosco ones and liked those but upgraded to the WiFi type but she had nothing bad to say about the old ones. Now she can talk on the phone with the newer ones the bad part is I have to listen to the conversations. LOL

4 of the 6 people I mentioned earlier got their hearing aids through the VA. To get anything done for you through the VA, you have to keep on them.

Thanks Keith. I should have pushed this years ago.

One note---If you get them; wear them. You will actually have to re-learn how to listen. Wearing only occasionally does not work so well.

Went in for a hearing test- I have an asymmetrical hearing loss (worse in left ear) but both ears are candidates for hearing aids, raised concerns that I could have an Acoustic Neuroma, basically a benign tumor that causes hearing loss. Yesterday, MRI came back fine- so moving down the path of hearing aids... my wife is preying on me with what I'm missing out on with the grandchildren (and she's right). My question is- I see myself going down Roy's path and unless there's a Bluetooth "Find my Hearing Aid" App- I see these disappearing at some point. In addition, does anyone use hearing aids for normal day use and Sound Gear or Walkers for hunting, trapping , etc. I'm not vain so I wouldn't mind an idiot "Bob" cord attached to them... I don't do well with anything that's not attached permanently to my body, I-Phone, Sunglasses, etc.
