Drove east to west practically across Idaho last weekend. About 300 miles. Saw some neat country. I've seen it hundreds of times. Thought some of you might want to see what it's like...

Jack, love the Stanley area. Someday I want to go back down there to enjoy it again.

I'm happy you went on your trip.

I like that area around Challis ! And Stanley is beautiful but a bit too commercial parts of the year for me.

I am surprised at how green it is for August !!

Makes a guy hum some Braun Brothers tunes !

Thirteen miles up Yankee Fork
Sittin' up at Sunbeam Dam
One of the prettiest spots in Idaho
Couple hundred thousand acres of green land
Gotta find me a woman to keep me warm
It gets cold in the wintertime
Thirteen miles up Yankee Fork in Idaho

She don’t gotta be a pretty one
She don't even gotta be too bright
Bake me bread in the mornin' time
Keep me warm treat me right at night

I’ll chop the wood
Do the huntin'
And I'll give her just a lil extra somethin'
She spend the winter with me in Idaho

★ Bridge
A mountain woman is hard to find
She can't be packin' no city mind
It's just her man and the mountain air
Gotta show each other they care
Winter lasted at least four months without goin' anywhere
It can’t get together for that short time
You’re in for a lotta despair

Thirteen miles up the Yankee Fork
Saw her sittin' on the Sunbeam Dam
One of the prettiest gals in Idaho
Told her all about my cabin and land
Then I dropped a hint about needin’ a woman
To keep me warm in the wintertime
Thirteen miles up Yankee Fork in Idaho

She said
'(This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) she didn't care
About my greasy beard and hair'
Said she liked to bake in the morning
But then she said
"Well man, I gotta warn ya cause
I’ve been lookin' for a man to keep me warm in the winter
Sometime someplace somewhere in Idaho"

I said "Ma'am how far do you plan to really go?"
She said "Thirteen miles up the Yankee Fork in Idaho"
Oh thirteen miles up the Yankee Fork in Idaho

I didn't see any of the Braun's on this trip, but you can bet I had an old Braun Brothers CD in the player. Also went by the South Fork Lodge in Lowman (another Muzzie Braun tune).

Been there too.
I Think Sunbeam is one of my favorite spots on Earth. The river is spectacular and it seems to be always very dark when I go through there. My kind of place !! laugh

I'll have to dig out my tape and refresh my memory.. The tape is one of yours laugh

What was that really great one about painted ladies ???

I fought a lot of fire in that country when I lived there in 97 and 98. Bear Valley was a heck of a place for a young buck to live and I drank a lot of beer in the Rod and Gun club and Mountain Village. Stanley was "only" 63 miles away by gravel and by far the closest town for us.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Cool pictures Gulo. Lots of familiar sites, fish ,lyrics and drinking establishments in this thread. Worked out of Ketchum for a few years. Muzzy played a lot of gigs down there. Had friends that I visited in Salmon and Cobalt so I traveled the river road a lot especially when trail creek was snowed shut. One spring I worked with the maintenance crew fixing up the bathrooms at Redfish Lake for a couple of months. We did the inside work first then we would shovel snow from around them and paint the next day. Hauled everything in with one of the big snow machines with 2 tracks and one ski. The handle bars on that thing were just to make you feel good. You could point the ski any direction you wanted and the machine still went the direction the tracks were pointing. It took a lot of body English to steer that thing. After a day of that we would head to the mountain village then on to Casanova Jacks.
