You are asking for a bunch of headaches dealing with the gov't and you are setting up your heirs for an ultimate PITA. Sell it and move on. Donate what you like to a veterans cause. Sadly you are right.
God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

What a generous, kind idea, Randall. I've always thought of our vets first, to have the best in everything. They deserve everything , the best, in life. They've already paid the price and shouldn't need to have to pay for anything, as far as I'm concerned.
There are programs that will gratefully take a person's used vechiles , fix them, and give them to vets.
And of course, lots of ways to donate any amount of funds to help them. I have been setting up an arrangement to have my most valuable things sent to veterans , in case of an untimely accident. Either they can keep them, or sell them and use the funds.
All those vacated military bases, in my mind, can be fixed up to house vets in the very same way . Ran and operated by vets. To make sure things are managed in an organized, safe way. So that no one turns them into flop houses. Those vets would love living much the same way as they did when they were active in service. Right down to their own medical on base units, commissaries, gardens, and some fun at the shooting ranges. Just as bases have always provided for them.
Why not provide for them rent free ?
Please try another way to do this, Randall. There's more than one door to a house, for a reason....same thought here too.

you may want to look into forming a not for profit LLC call it helping vets something like that and offer it as a Retreat center for veterans.
it will still need taxes , heat , electric and maintenance. so something needs to be in place for that.
a not for profit can do those things and or sell the property at some point and make a donation to another not for profit.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Most rental laws (landlord/tenant rules) don't allow you to discriminate for just about any reason. However, if you aren't charging rent there might be some loop-holes. Sometimes it about how you phrase the question.

Thank You Sharon. I am a Vet as well as my father was in Vietnam with two of his Brothers. One never made it home and the other spent 16Months and 21 days in a POW Camp. Their Parents were accidentally killed so the Courts gave the males old enough to serve the choice of the Military or County work Farm. Guess which way they served. My Fathers Uncle Tommy was killed in France during WW2. He is buried there. I will not allow the Demonrats on the city Board to stop this. My Lawyer has Ties and Laws and assures me this will not become another Homeless shelter for Drug Addicts like the City wants it to be. VETERANS ONLY!!! And Combat Veterans will take Preference!! Those vacated Military Bases should be for the veterans and should have Medical Facilities on site. I will get my Veterans home I am assured and when it is up and running when I pass I want it to be handed over to the Wounded Warrior Foundation with the understanding it is never to be anything but a Veterans home.
God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Yes sir. Tunnels To Towers is another excellent group who puts every dollar into homes for vets.
The Vietnam Traveling Wall that Heals, is an excellent organization , touring the country , hauling a true to life 3/4 size exhibit of the Wall back east. All run by volunteers, from the long haul truckers with immaculate trucks , often decorated, full of wonderful art of Hueys, soldiers, etc. Backed up by local VA vets, local vet organizations, meeting them to help in every town.
Along with a parade of bikers , many who are vets, to escort the caravan into each town . Someone on here wants to hate bikers and put them in a bad light. They have never been more mistaken. I see through that and know why they really are so negative and judgmental. All of them helping , setting up for anyone to see, open day and night for several days before packing up and moving to the next town.
I attended this a few weeks ago when they were in my Montana , one of the best, touching, truly healing events in my life. Meeting and visiting with not a few vets , who felt free to share some of their experiences. When other times in life, they couldn't. Spending time with the driver, and two other volunteers, inspired me to offer my help, my art, anything I can do that they may need . The stories I heard from them, of how the exhibit really has healed so much for vets they meet, all positive, not negative. You just have to be there to see it for yourself and feel it all around you.
It is to that exhibit, that I want my most valued things to go, to be enjoyed by or to benefit those vets.
A few of those military bases, guess who the Fascist regime with their fake generals in the Pentagon put in there to live, as illegal aliens ? Muslims. Those who hate our soldiers and would be trying to shoot them if they were still back where they came from.
You have a nice history of those who love our country. My father , likewise, was a seven times decorated WW2 fighter pilot. A stunt pilot , crop duster, plane mechanic all his life after that. Was teaching me to fly a DC-3 running supplies to the West Indies for some time. I've always had and appreciate vets in my life. From one of my firearms instructors, First Sergeant, over 21 years in Army and Air Force, Top, everyone called him. To a beloved Bell type Huey/gunner driver in VN, to other vets whom I have enjoyed shooting with, at my local gun ranges .
To me, you can rent your places to anyone you wish. You pay the tax on them. And you reserve the right to refuse anyone else whom you see would not be right to live in them.

The VFW owns a national home in Michigan for women and children. Find a local VFW, American Legion in your area and donate the duplex to them and they can manage that for veterans, or at least find persons who are willing and able to.
Bryce Good idea Bryce ! Might even be a tax deductible gift............even though that isn't Randall's motivation. Too many traps in the Federal Fair Housing Act for an individual to navigate. But I'll bet VFW knows the ropes in this case

Our Attorney and my wife are making sure it will probably be going to Tunnels to Towers and are making sure it will be for Veterans NOT Homeless Crack Heads. It is located two doors from the Police Station so they are more than willing to keep out the Vagrants and also want it to be for Veterans and again Combat Veterans will get the Priority.
God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.
