Devastating and frustrating. My auntys has only heard from 1 inlaw which they lost everything. She hasn't heard about the rest of the in law family as there's no power no utilities etc...

People are being prevented from leaving their towns, helping or taking supplies to those in need. Why? This happened 2 days ago and people are stuck with nothing in charred areas and can't get anything.


Only thing I've seen from Biden is a hearts go out to the family tweet.

I saw that some were rescued by the coast guard, what doesn’t make sense is one of the largest naval bases is in Pearl Harbor, why doesn’t congress, senate, or the president release them to go in and provide aid?

Sirens weren't activated and there may not have been time to plan anything with high winds. It's an island. Maui is the wealthiest island and I've heard that criminals go there to prey on ppl. Could have been arson.

48 miles long and 24 miles wide. One city in particular was a total loss.

Until now, I never thought about a tropical island in the Pacific being vulnerable to fires. Volcanos sure.

This is a sad deal.

That is awful news. I hope those folks just scattered to get out of the way and will turn up, but I fear otherwise.

God bless them but likely not out of the ordinary in the big picture for people who live on an island with a big active volcano in the middle.

I would not be surprised to find the fire was started by echo terrorist. They want to make it look like climate change is the reason.

Surprising to find out that help is being turned away, yet none from the government has been onsite yet to boot? What are they trying to cover up…. I know, I just bought the big roll of foil at Costco.

Wind blew trees into power lines which caused the fire. Save the tin foil.

Devastating for sure and it appears as if a pee poor response from the guberment to help is in the works.

Federal disaster has been delcared and that allows FEMA to enter into the process along with state agencies and NGO etc. FEMA will first bring in search dogs to help locate remains but also the firest funds can be used to defray up to 75% all the fire fighting costs. The next big issue is locating and or creating housing for the thousands who now have no homes to live in and that includes movement to other islands or beyond if needed.
85% of Maui's economy is tourism so there won't be much revenue generation for some time. The island also has a fairly sizable beef industry. Don't know how the fires maybe impacting that industry at this time.
