I set what I think is this muskrat slide if it could be confirmed thats what it is that would be great but also in the back there is a hole at the top of the slide and the water level in the river is really low so im wondering if that could be an exposed den or just some sort of feeding hole

Hummm, could be. So far I’ve only muskrat trapped earlier this spring when there was still alotta ice. Late thaw here and our spring season was only March 1st to April 30th.

I don't think a little fencing could hurt. There is lots of places for them to go other than right over the pan.

I have nothing clever to put here.

It could be but I don't pay much attention to rat sign in August.

If you’re on a river and it’s low, my opinion is that you’re set on an exposed muskrat den. Typically they like the entrance under water so it’s possible they’ve abandoned the den for the time being. But maybe not.

Might want to readjust your trap ....have that dog at 3 O'Clock ...so the critter goes between the jaws.. ...and not ovah the jaw.

It appears to me their is to much vegetation at the hole level to have been under water much, if at all. I would suspect mink den possibility. I would also center the trap directly under the hole at the water level with some blocking on both sides.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Is it trapping season?

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

thanks for the info I spotted one near it like maybe a meter or 2 away and it jumped in the water and disappeared in the holes area so my guess is they are still using it

good idea but 3 or 9 because at 3 the longspring would come first and I think that would shift the trap

Not if you bed it solid.

Could try 110s in the water with baited triggers, or make a little baited float for a couple traps. I had this one, 4 traps and 3 were set off, one on each leg…LOL [Linked Image]

If not too deep, put a bodygrip in front of the hole they're using

I've only trapping rats a few years, but I would say no, it is not a slide.... BUT they be going in a hole up there to cut roots for food. It also could be where a mink went into a hole either after mouse or muskrat. I am going to send you a PM so check them shortly.
