Not sure I am following

But sounds like you want to climb a tree for fun and to work on you (or someone's) fear of heights?

How high do want to go?

I would start with a 20' climbing stick, a safety harness and a lifeline type rope to connect to harness

Maybe check Hunter Safety System website to get an idea of what I am talking about

Just buy a box of ship spikes and drive them in with a thor hammer as you go up.

Sometimes spurs aren’t friendly, especially if you’re not good with heights and have never been trained on using them. Seen some really good climbers, with ripped open legs, retire on disability in a wheelchair or much worse. Recipe for disaster.

i saddle hunt using ropes to get into the trees via either multiple rope system, singe rope system or twontether climbing system. Your always attached to the tree so unless the tree falls, you arent falling.

Good climbing spurs aren't cheap . Plus you don't want to go up and down the same tree too many times or you'll run out of bark.

Pole climbers and tree climbers aren't the same. Spikes are different length. I don't recommend pole climbers for climbing trees unless you know what you're doing.

This!!!! Ask me how I know, lol. Early in my career I thought this would be the new way to hunt, the preexistence of saddle hunting. Well all was going good until about a short 12ft up I hit a piece of bark that was a lot thicker than than my spikes. Luckily I was somewhat safetied off and lost very little skin on the way down. So, unless you’re a skilled tree climber with a lot longer spikes than those used to climb poles, I’d pick another option.

The best and cheapest way to climb a large tree would be with a proper tree climbing harness and rope. You would use a throw ball to get your rope set and then tie a Blakes hitch or whatever you preferred and then hip thrust up the tree while you're tied in, you don't need spikes. A good tree climbing rope is $150, a harness is likely around the same for a cheap one, throw ball and line is around $40. The knowledge to do it all correctly can be found on youtube but you should start out "low and slow" before attempting to scale the tree.

In WV we just find a Graevine and a deep Holler and swing. When it breaks then you lose your fear of Heights real fast. About as fast as the ground comes to meet you.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.
