Guess I'll get the longer shaft if thats what works good on your sportspal.16.5 seems pretty short.

Hmmm . . must be the longer shaft then. Didn't look up the specs. The transom on that Sportspal of mine is 15".

Thanks for the replies Muskrat.
Hope I didnt hijack your thread TR.

In a thread concerning motoring in shallow water, any shaft length length info is good info, not matter who it is directed at.

I want to thank everyone for the advise/suggestions.

I now have a project with some definition:

I have an old Coleman 16ft polyethylene canoe, AKA tank. I will turn into a luxury tour/cargo vessel.

The plan is to add:
  • A side mounted trolling motor-maybe an electric powered jet or future surface drive
  • Oarlocks and oars as backup power.
  • Two Bimini tops. Under each a comfortable chair with back
  • Sponsons on each side.

Wooldrige or any craft with a tunnel ram
It will give you 4 more inches of motor clearance on a jet

Nah, the way you do that is to motor UP and then float back DOWN.
That way, if your motor takes a dump, bust a prop or what ever, you can still get out with minimal effort. Paddling out UPRIVER ain't any fun.

wink
