Sawflies are an interesting group of insects, related to bees and wasps, that do not sting and are named for the saw-like ovipositor of the females. These insects lay eggs in leaves and stems that hatch into larvae that resemble caterpillars. Although the two look quite similar at first glance, there are some key differences between them. Learn how to tell sawfly larvae and caterpillars apart in this video.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Anthony

Here’s what our bigger sawflies look like. Pretty intimidating to look at but harmless (no sting) far as I know.

you can vote your way into socialism, but you will have to shoot your way out.

drasselt - That is a cool looking sawfly and larva! Bigger than than most of the species around here. They do look menacing but are totally harmless - the only thing they sting with that big ovipositor are plants.
