A couple bear with the 629 and a few deer and an antelope with the waters.

After using a handgun my rifles stay in the safes

Same with me. It got boring with a rifle and I don't really care if I get a deer anymore. My girls can fill the freezer. I'm only comfortable out to around 40 yards. You can't really see much farther than that where I hunt usually anyway

I forgot , I’ve killed 2 with a 1911 .45, 1 with my Glock 20, and a couple with my smith 329pd. My first ever animal harvest with a weapon was a red squirrel with an H&R sportsman .22. I love all things handguns.

I'm surprised so many of you guys hunt with a handgun. I've never seen anyone else other than family carrying one in the woods. They all looked at me kinda weird when I showed them what I was carrying. Pretty interesting stuff

Do rifle cartridges really buck in a handgun? I like the idea of a contender

I have shot stout loads in big bore revolvers that had more recoil. Like allready noted the noise can get bad with big revolvers.
Rifle round handguns are not ment to be fired off hand but from a rest if they have 15" barrel like my 308 did.

I've killed a few deer with a ruger vaquero 45 lc and 1 with a Beretta 92 9mm. 9mm really isn't big enough, but with a well placed shot it was perfectly adequate, and deer dropped within sight.
The 45lc is plenty enough for deer.
Those few gave me my fix for handgun hunting, but I only carry a handgun when I go back in to pack a deer so I'm sure I'll pick up a few more.

Outlaw it fits my hip really well, and in my Alaskan guide cross holster it’s not even noticed. The more I use it the more I like it. I happened on it and it’s one of those times when it feels well and hits what I point it at. I was fortunate to get it.

They built that 629 right from the start. I bought that 329pd for trips in western Montana where the population of big furry things with sharp teeth increases. It’s so light I don’t even know it’s there after a long day and heavy pack on my back. It’s not a lot of fun at the range though.
Ironically, I just purchased my Holy Grail of all things handguns last week and should pick it up tomm. It’s my version of the ultimate hunter. Maybe I’ll post up some pics when I get it.

Outlaw I hope it’s all and more than you want. My 629 was purchased with a purpose in mind, protection, which it serves well. I do not practice too often with it, I am fortunate it fits my hand well and hits what I point it at, usually.

It’s useful intent when acquired was as a “last stand” point blank shove it into the fur and roll the wheel. With a 4” barrel it’s perfect for that. I just got lucky in that I can and have stretched it out farther than that with success.

I can't believe I missed them closing. I would buy an mgm barrel anyway. There are many on the used market and lots of aftermarket parts available.

How about some cartridge load data. I use a Ruger SR .454 Casull and either a 240 grain XTP Mag or 335 hard cast handload depending on what and where I'm hunting and the local laws.

Those are really sharp looking shooters. Do you think the short brake makes much of a difference?
