I know the new version of Victor's OOS is junk, but setting the old style or WCS version. My understanding is the intent of setting the trap is to dig two slots for your scissors, compress the tunnel, place trap into slots, trip the trap to make sure no roots/rocks are impeding the firing, and you're done, with 50% of the trap above ground. I have seen more individuals digging out a plug, and placing the trap down into the ground, leaving only 1/4 to 1/3 of the trap exposed when finished. Still VERY new at this, please give me your thoughts and opinions. I appreciate it!

I use the older style OOS mole trap with the Elite Mole Upgrade kit. This kit consists of a stainless steel trigger rod and trigger plate. My trapping technique involves cutting out the plug of soil to accommodate the trap, compressing the set with soil to the bottom of the mole tunnel, placing the trap in this set and dry firing it. I then re-set the trap with the trip pan resting ~1/8” above the bottom of the tunnel and backfill the trap set with soil halfway and usually covering the spring. This is what I do with this trap in sandy soil.

FYI - there is wealth of information re your question in the archives. Better yet, Google “setting the OOS mole trap Trapperman Forum.”

Best of Luck!
