I finally completed the Nebraska Upland Slam last night. I couldn't be happier, but my end goal isn't complete yet. I did a little write up on it if you guys are interested.

Any other states have upland slams?
I am looking at the chance to try it in another state.

I have never heard of such a thing on upland birds. You would need to cover lots of real estate in MN to get one of each. Pheasants and Spruce Grouse live in the opposite corners of the state.

I have nothing clever to put here.

What is an upland slam?

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Pheasant numbers have been struggling but making a rebound especially south against the Wheeler border.
Lots and lots of chickens though.

I know Arizona has a quail slam.

Nebraska has a waterfowl slam also I would love to complete.

Never heard of an Upland Slam. Sounds like a great goal.

In college in Plattsburgh NY my philosophy professor and our Sportsman's Club sponsor had his own winter grand slam that he was trying to complete. He wanted to shoot a grouse, catch a pike through the ice and catch a salmon on a fly, all in the same day. Last I heard he had gotten two out of three in the same day.

No woodcock or snipe?

They are not included in any slam. It would be cool to do a unique waterfowl slam with like snipe, woodcock, rail, and a coot.
Unfortunately, we don't get many woodcock passing through Nebraska.

We get them here. Some years a fair amount of woodcock and they can be humbling to try to hit. Now snipe are different. You will need a flashlight and a sack. I will tell you how to do it when you get here...........

MN grouse woods a typically fairly stacked with woodcock. Those managed cutting that are in that perfect age range.

Actually our woodcock population has been down the last few years but it you hit the migration right you can get into a pile of birds.

I was planning on a woodcock/grouse trip up that direction in the next year or so.

I know someone that is an active waterfowler His goal is the kill one of each spies of Native to the North American continent waterfowl. I think it is about 100 to 110 .He has his trophy room set up to display them in it is something to see I think the last time we talked he was about 5 short of reaching his target . His display is really beautiful . .

My plan last year was to hit Wyoming. I was overwhelmed on how to break down that new type of terrain on OnX.

The major determining factor was how dry it was out there last season.
I went the North Dakota route instead last season.

There is a gentleman in Mississippi that has every North American duck including now protected species in the Eider family. It’s truly unique in the way he has it laid out. This man has more bands than anyone I know. He even had a hummingbird fly into a window on his house and it was banded, lol. I believe he even shot a banded turkey in Tennessee. One of the luckiest men I know!

I had a wildlife professor in college that went for the Idaho Grand Slam (upland birds) one year. Wild turkey, Valley Quail, Mountain Quail, Gambel's Quail, Bobwhite, Gray Partridge (Huns), Chukar, Spruce Grouse, Blue Grouse, Ruffed Grouse, Pheasant, Sharptail, Sage grouse, and Mourning dove. I believe it was 15 species. I can't remember the other one. Can no longer legally hunt Mountain and Gambel's Quail, but you can add Eurasian collared dove. Idaho has good upland bird hunting with extremely varied habitat. I'll be out next week watching my wife whack a few blue grouse (Dusky Grouse). If I could add all years together, I'd have the Slam, but not in a single year.

Jack

It is a very wet year this year, birds should be great. Waterfowl may be good as well.
