Well, if by that he means clubs where me, James, and Mr. Dobbins are members, he can just go drink somewhere else.

Well, if those folks don't meet up with suitable mates by breeding season, they'll just have to take a shot as self-replication.

I'm not saying trappers have to have a big public presence to be a master at killing critters. There are plenty of dudes most have never heard of who made and are still making a life of stacking hides. Just saying some of the ones who show up and make a big splash, then disappear may have been riding on a fake wave built up by a supply company, creative social media or a few podcasts. That said, sometimes its just people aren't made for the attention.

I think it was Asa who said on here once, something to the effect of , "There's a lot of trapping lures and gadgets out there that are better at catching trappers than animals." We're a gullible bunch. grin

Can't blame them. Sometimes the forums are just a place to bash the "James's" of the world. Nothing constructive to add, just pack mentality towards whoever's turn in the barrel.
There are some really good trappers who don't have a need to be forum famous. Some are not interested in the politics or back pats needed to gain likes. They are producers/business men and not media personalities. Some don't consider the few dollars made selling books or lure to be worth the headache; they are successful at what they do and don't need to be saddled with the work. Others take great pleasure in what they do, probably far beyond the dollars gained. Each has to decide what's best for them.

O.L. Butcher said "the difference between trappers and animals was that you can only skin a critter once, but trappers get skinned over and over." Or something pretty close to that.

And some are on trapping forums who don't even trap and im not talking about the ones that just physically can't do it anymore. More the ones that just don't have much intrest in it but like to be part of the pack.
