Was at my camp Saturday, came around a bend in the logging road with my ATV and a snowshoe hare came running straight towards me.
I stopped and the hare ran past me. I could have touched it when it went by. In a second a fisher burst out of the brush hot on the hares trail. I thought the fisher was going to run past me like the hare, but at about 15 feet it took a right hand turn up over the road bank. I’m pretty sure by me interrupting the chase, the hare lived another day.

I bet not.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Had the same thing happened to me about 3 years ago a rabbit came out of the wood and ran down the road. Came right past the truck looking back to see what was coming about a minute later a marten came out on its trail got close to the truck and deviated around it but that rabbit didn't have a chance.

Not sure if you are betting on the fisher still caught the hare or the fisher will starve ? All I know is, when I last seen it, the hare was over 100 yds heading south down the road and the fisher headed west. My money is on that particular hare. But I do agree that the fisher is a proficient hare killer. Until our fisher population started to recover in the 1960’s, we were over run with snowshoe hares. Not so much today with our high fisher population.

One time when I was hunting Deer I was watching a Cottontail Rabbit just doing what they do. All of a sudden a Fisher appeared and attacked the Rabbit, the Rabbit started kicking with its hind feet and must have stunned the Fisher. The Rabbit ran off and after a bit the fisher kinda just looked around and continued down the trail it was on when it spotted the rabbit in the first place. The Rabbit was still there through the rest of hunting season.
