Flowers are the backbone of any butterfly garden, but non-living features can also play a huge role in helping to draw and provide for the butterflies and other pollinators you are trying to attract. One of the easiest and most effective of these is to provide a water source, or sources if you have the space. These can be simple tray style waterers or can be bare ground puddling spots. In this video learn how to create both types of water features in your garden, and best of all they are simple to create and usually free!

Hope you find the video useful. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks!
Anthony

I frequently see honey bees sucking water out of dog poop.

Some days, we get hundreds of butterflies drinking the water that spills when we fill the 2 1/2 gallon jugs we use to carry water to our stock.

KeithC - Yep - honeybees will gather moisture and minerals from some strange places - butterflies too. If I need good pics of butterflies I just take a leak on our gravel driveway and wait a few minutes. Butterflies love urine.

Thank you. I plant flowers for the insects every year. Now I will include a water source.

Very nice video, Anthony.

I have three birdbaths, all hand made with a gradual slope and traction, where the bees sit along the edge and get all the water they desire. No one slides in and drowns.

I had to chuckle when you held up the two flower pot bases, with that stoic expression on your face....you just struck me as funny grin

Gives them something to get out on when they fall in. Some still drown that's just life. Er have other. Waters sources like stock tanks and 14 mile creek 500 yards or less away. They do seem to like the ac water
