Dang, I hate hearing this. We lost very very good one with this loss. I knew he wasn't doing well when he contacted me about a month or so ago asking for me to remove him as a moderator on the Trap Collectors forum, because he wasn't going to be able to continue with that obligation.

His knowledge of traps was unbelieveable. I enjoyed just sitting nearby and listening to his description of traps and the many friendships that he had through his dealings with them. Many of you have dealt with him over the years. In the past couple of months the treatments he received were less and less successful until finally this past week he was taken off everything and placed in hospice care. I went over to see him on Sunday and wished him a final "good bye". I am not sure if he knew me or not. Heaven is truly richer tonight because Jim is there.

Rest in Peace my dear friend.

Respectfully,

Jediknight

He was a fantastic person to deal with, one great guy, though he did talk me out of most of my old traps that I dissent even know were collectible, did give me better then fair price to according to

So sorry to hear this

Rest In Peace you will be missed

And thanks for all you did for me and mine

meet him twice at conventions, his wife's skunk essence was quite a hit during the marten boom era as I lined him up with Terry Barnes " marten magic" to ship to
we had crossed paths before when he was in charge of the scientific ships and collections on the Great Lakes, he would come to the Federal Canadian fisheries here in Winnipeg
I think he has co-authored 400+ scientific papers
Mayo was visited many a time
It was always a please to talk with him

Very sad to hear about Jim, he contacted me a couple months ago and asked if I’d buy a ton of ammunition and some guns from him. We talked for quite awhile and I obliged to his offer. He was definitely struggling towards the end. The last time I talked to him he was lying on the floor after a treatment, to weak to get up. What a great loss to the trapping and hunting community. RIP old friend, whenever I get out one of your guns I’ll be thinking about you.

So good to hear from so many. Jim touched so many lives over the years. His memorial is planned for Saturday, Sept 9th in Revillo, SD. I do have an address for anyone wishing to send there condolences.

Thanks to all of you and the many who will be expressing their thoughts on here.
