Hey everyone, is there anyway to “trap” for a living?Nuisance work or whatever. I’m 22 years old and currently live in Oregon but would definitely be open to move if it was to another western state. Wouldn’t say I’m a professional at trapping coyotes although I’m not bad at it. I can catch everything else with no problem though.I’m sorta at a crossroads as far as career choices and would love to do something like this even if it was only for a winter or two. Any ideas?

In the southeastern part of the US, trapping beavers can be a way of making a living. I trapped beavers for a timber company in North Carolina full time for thirty years.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

I did nuisance beaver control for the Railroad.Good pay, benefits and per diem and lots of overtime.
Really built up my pension with that job.

USDA, many state agencies, some local county, forest preserve, county extensions, private companies like timber, airports and so one. They are out there. Some require biology or wildlife degrees. We get a good mix of students at Trappers College who have or had or will be doing these types of things.

If you have the urban base a good squirrel trapper can make good money, lol.

Seriously, that's been my gig for nearly twenty years now. Squirrels, coons, opossums, bats, snakes, bees, beaver, coyote, fox you name it. And if you have construction skills couple in the exclusion repairs.

I think the USDA has a trapper staff in NC. They are good too. No rules to follow.

That's right, no rules. Do not have to follow state regs and can take away as much work from regulars trappers as they want by any method including fraud without repercussions. That government immunity, you know.
