Jim knew I spent several years living in the UP he sent me a video about UP men and their history he said to keep it when I said I’d get it back to him.

When my fur shed burned he offered to send me some items the were lost and he refused to take anything for the pile of wood and wire stretchers but that did not work for me so we worked out a price and most would go to the 4H trapping kids.

Jim and I did some business over time before that but keep in mind I never met him in person but he was willing to give trapping supplies to another trapper for free you don’t run into people like that often but you do some days. He even arranged for them to be delivered by Peterson Furs the next trip through my area.

It was always good hearing from Jim I never knew what it would be about but he was never boring he was a hoot.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

While I never meet the man I did sell him a few items from the Trap Shed just a few months ago .I think it was items that included trapping items related to Jim Helfrich In our few minutes of talking he made the comment that now someone would have more of his trapping stuff t get rid of My first impression was he seemed like a nice guy It sounds like the trapping family lost another good one .

If anyone bought a V or B&L #0 jump from Jim w/i the last 8-10 years they probably came from me to him. He called and wanted every #0 I could find/get in good shape and once offered me way too much for an #0 Triumph LS with the T cut in the pan. Told him I was going to buy him dinner when I came to the next convention but that was in '21 and I missed last year's so was planning on this year. Will miss the big guy as he was an encyclopedia for any trap of antique value. I was a graduate of MSU in Fisheries in 1980 so we talked of that also. A race we all are running. ..............................the mike
