Snares, cages and 330s and getting in before the kits are dropped.

Most of my calls come in at dispersal time.

All those can catch non targets, you can release from cages and some from snares(if not set lethal) but not so much from 330s

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Snares catch smaller beaver and fewer non targets. 330s catch turtles.

Never had a bird issue here, but I can see they would be a definite issue if they were present with the public. Few muskrats where I trap, so the one or two a year I get in beaver traps I figure as a low dollar bonus, same with the very rare mink. Otter were always a high dollar bonus growing up. Now where I trap there is a quota on otter, so there are times I attempt to avoid them. Pan tension wouldn't be of any help with that though.

Back foot setups avoid most non targets for me. Otter being the most common exception, but even that is drastically reduced with the “perfect” depth for back foot. I may have more misses on beaver with deep back foot setups, but that is an acceptable tradeoff to avoid non targets. Non target possibilities most common here include raccoons, geese, herons, turtles, and otter. And I still get the beavers, or I wouldn’t still be in business. Final cleanup on the wise ones is typically with footholds.

Urban areas with lots of green spaces are covered up with geese.
