I never got too interested in 300 blackout as its pretty much the same ballistics as the old 30 carbine. just another example of gun makers/ writers reinventing the wheel.

I feel .300blk is one of those things it really just depends on who you are as a person. Most people who just want a gun to work, buy some shells off the shelf and just do generic gun stuff well yeah not too much point in it. Then you guys like me. You can tinker and tailor the little some of a gun in so many ways.
Dirt cheap plinker ? Can do that
Short range super super sonic sedgehammer ? Can do that
Brush buster ? Yep
Cheap .30 cal option for 100yd and in ? Yes sir
Cast bullets ? All day
AR ? Yep
Bolt gun ? Yep
Break action? Mmmmhmm
Really nice premium factory ammo ? Tons of options
Good brass ? Just about everyone makes it.
Cheap brass options for when things get rough ? Get you a jig and go pick up some .223/5.56 at the range and ya got brass for days for next to nothing but your time.

.30 carbine.....well you get what 90-114gr bullets ?and your kinda stuck with either a .30 carbine or maybe a nicer relover. I think there one or two places you can get some bolt guns in it but idk I've never just seen many offerings in .30 carbine ...lord help you if you want an optic. .300blk ? Any gun (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) has like 5 different options to pic from .
But again that's just how I see it. I don't even have one though....yet ... So what do I know grin

I think its just more hype to sell more guns. 30 carbine was never real popular with civilians. So 2mm was added to the case length and gun makers started talking about the new short range deer cartridge. I get gun makers have to sell stuff to stay in business. Nothing wrong with shooting round balls from a centerfire. I just get tired of all the hype. Will need to be a new invention to really get something new on the market performance wise. A hundred fifty years ago smokeless powder was invented. It was a whole new rabbit hole. Many improvements in powder have been made since then but nothing that changes things the way smokeless did. No truly revolutionizing engineering has been achieved in over a hundred years. In the last hundred years the most advancement has been in metallurgy and machining.

Last year, Remington came out with the .360 Buckhammer. I believe the ammo is built on the 30-30 Winchester casing.
Another round catering to the straight walled casing rifles in restricted areas. When we were able to start using straight walled cartridge's here in the
shotgun only area I'm in, I bought a Mossberg Patriot in .450 Bushmaster. Nice rifle.

The majority of the guns bought today aren't for hunting they are for range play (toys) and everyone likes new and cooler toys. For older generations a gun was a tool to serve a purpose and if it served the purpose that was enough.

Round balls are nice small game fodder. Shot plenty in 444 marlin, 44 mag, and 45 colt.

Which honestly I feel helps the second amendment better.
