Finally got all my traps rigged, dyed and waxed, it was a bigger job than I thought. I’m guessing just dump these things out in the woods till I use them or should they be hung up somewhere?

No worries with them smelling like Rubbermaid? I was actually thinking about putting them in a big cooler with one of those small ozone generators before I put them in the ground.

After going thru all that trouble, I for sure wouldn’t dump them out side. Either hang them inside in a scent free location or put them in totes…

Just hang them up under some trees out back of your fur shed until ready to use.
Dyed and waxed traps are impervious to weather.

Don't use new totes. Add some grass or local fauna so they take on that smell instead. Or hang them outside in a shaded spot til you need them.

Nothing cooler than freshly dyed and waxed traps.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Good looking gear! I like to hang them 6 to a bundle so I can see what I am grabbing when I get going. Even though you know when, where, and who right now; the fog of war will set in come trappin season.

I think it would be a toss up between that or opening up a new box of traps.

A dyed and well waxed trap looks like success, then we bury them in dirt. But a well dyed trap sure is a sight.

JMHO I love the process of boiling in home grown dyes , black walnut hulls( nuts and all ) sumac berries. or even just burying water traps in swamp muck. Just about anything to make the trap more natural looking.
Land traps, the smell is more important.
You bury a trap that smells strange, and it gets dug up.
Boiling and dying is just to help preserve the traps.
Waxing is important ,but has to be done right .
Looks like the OP did it right.
More to do with nostalgia than anything , and cheaper and IMHO better than any trap dip.
Water traps are your choice , paint works great, as dips do too.
Land traps your choice , natural is just better IMHO.

You could put them in plastic Ziplocs if you're worried about the Rubbermaid containers

May rams & snares are in a plastic tub jammed with pine and poplar branches. Traps are in milk crates in the bush behind the shed. A big wolf trapper north of me tosses his stuff in a 55g drum with grass clippings until fall.
Are some of those Duke 850s? How do you like em?

You have some scraping to do, on the dogs and pan posts. If you do that now, a metal garbage can is nice for storage.

I like them, but this is my first year trapping so I don’t have much to compare it to. I welded the baseplate and put a big cold bead right on top of the rod the springs go on to make sure the springs don’t come off. I have a half dozen NO BS wolf Jr’s and they use a bolt with a lock nut. Now there’s no way those springs are getting chewed off unless the wolf has a grinder.

Thanks for the tip on pine branches, I will do that when I pack these all up in the Jeep to take them out.

How much scraping do I need to do? As long as there’s no globs of dried wax on the firing mechanism I thought I was good to go.
