Smeals Lures were out of Scribner NE I think. Can anyone give me a bit of history on ( Harry ) and what and where his lures ended up? Thanks!

I know next to nothing about the man but I believe he was a big fur buyer out of Iowa.I think he used to do the fur market report in the early days of The Trapper magazine

One of the 1st bottles of lure I ever had! Not sure I still have the empty jar, but I am pretty sentimental about that kind of thing, so it is possibly on a shelf somewhere.

Harry died about (I’m guessing) 25 years ago. Last I heard, Bob, his son gave up on the fur buying and lures. No idea where Bob is these days, but I would start in Scribner Ne. That was where Smeal hide and fur was out of. i went to Scribner in 76 for the NTA convention, and was the first NTA I ever attended. Was hooked after that! Most of his lures were Bill Nelson formulas, but he came up with several that I really liked, and used till he died!

Good info fellas. Thanks! I have a partial jar of Mink lure I bought from him in 85 at a convention in Waverly, Iowa. It smells as good as the day I got it.

E.J. , Lee is correct with his knowledge! Harry was from Scribner, NE. His son had the lure formulas but never carried on with them. Harry was a heck of a good guy. Enjoyed sitting at several convention campfires with him in the group.
