I was working today and cutting thru the country side to get to the next trap site, I was in a lane between 2 fields. It opened up a little at an old barn maybe 40 foot on each side of the road. The old barn had seen its better days and the lean to shed on the side sure had. The lean to shed had some 5 foot high weeds growing across the front of it with a small path into the shed. As I got up to the opening an old doe deer was feeding in front of the barn she turned and walked right in side of the lean to shed thru the weeds. I would have never figured that you could get a deer to walk into a barn on her own but this one sure did.

Always a surprize of some kind on the trapline.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I've found several dead deer in old buildings during harsh winters.
But that's gotta be rare what you seen.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

We have an old storage shed on an 80, and have had a few different deer live in it over the years. A couple of pretty decent bucks have made it home as well.

I store hay in a three-sided building some winters. They come in all the time and never bothers them a bit. I also see tracks throughout the year in there with no stored hay at all.

There's an abandoned WWII era bunker on an Island on the east coast that I used to trap. It had a mostly rusted out steel door that was difficult to get through, but every day that I walked into that bunker, I had to tread lightly so as to not get trampled by a doe which wanted no part of sharing that bunker with me. I slapped her hindquarters one time. Made my day. I felt like a young brave earning his first feather.

Where I used to deer hunt, NE of Peterborough the deer would start hanging out in strange places after day 1 of rifle season. Often, you would see mature bucks bedded up against the foundation wall of empty summer homes and cottages in the middle of the day, sunning in driveways or on decks and docks.

A funny related story... the first time I ever drove my truck (we used to all ride together in a friends vehicle), I pulled into the long grass where we always parked before entering the public land. This was about 4:30am, foggy and darker than a mother in law's heart. We had unloaded and were waiting for the group on 4 wheelers to show up when a small doe burst out from under my truck and ran up over the hill... I had driven and parked right on top of her and it about scared the life out of me. Then, on the walk to my stand I about stepped on (I think) the same deer LOL. Pretty sure my soul left my body for a moment like a Tex Avery cartoon... and I didn't shoot any deer that year.

Just happy to be here.
