I have no doubt that the FBI shared no details of what the arrest was over. They just presented the warrant ordering that the safe code be given to them.

If the FBI had a legal warrant there wasn’t much liberty safe could do, I know on old safes you could get a locksmith to change the combination, is that something that can be done on new safes? If so then the FBI would have to use a cutting device (torch, plasma, cutoff wheel) then the combination from liberty would be worthless.

Yes, if the warrant specified that they must comply with the request.

I read it as they did the search found a safe then called the manufacturer. If so then there is no way the warrant could've specified for a what if. If they knew of the safe ahead of time then it would be possible but that raises the question how did they know.

Or it could've been found the safe then waited for a follow up warrant.

But it really boils down to whether the company voluntarily assisted with the search or were ordered to do so by court order.

Warrants generally do not compel third parties to assist in a search. The Apple iPhone case several years back being a prime example.

BTW, this is a very real and growing problem of government over reach in violation of 4th Amendment protections against unreasonable search by both federal and state agencies.

For instance did you know that in Alabama all banks registered with the state must make their account records and records of all account holders regardless of where the account holder may actually reside open for inspection by the state Dept of Revenue?

The last gun storage area I made is 10'x 18' 'x8' under ground concrete floor block walls and poured concrete ceiling. AR 500 sliding door with pins. Now that is a safe.

Only problem is it's impossible to take with you when you move. Of course I moved . I need to build another one but I had over 10 k in building that one myself. And prices are much higher now. I think I will go with poured walls if I make another one.

My gun safes are for protecting my firearms from fire and theft. No safe’s purpose should be to hide a firearm used in a criminal act.
