I think a round trap 12” across would be 113 sq inches?
But maybe the RBG 440 is square? I honestly don’t know.

Thats what I did
12” diameter, so Radius 6”, 6 squared is 36
36x3.14= 113

I know, right? I should have been a rocket scientist….

Why would a RBG be square?

Nick actually does make a square body grips, but I wasn’t sure if they were sold as “RGB” - as in the brand RGB. I thought maybe the OP was referring to one of those square body grip traps since it was called 440, and Mike had calculated the area at 144 in sq. But I see from the information above that the 440 is indeed a round one, and that is the information I used to calculate the area. He also makes a wide “660”, and it is square - well, rectangular if we are being precise. But I call that one the RGB 660 even though it is not round because Nick makes them at the RGB facility as far as I know.

A 440 in PA wouldn’t be legal because they don’t measure in square inches, only mention length and width measurements. So their 12” jaw spread would be fine one way but 2” too big the other.

Like Cletus says, make sure you check what your regs say, width? Height? Square area?
Loosanarrow nailed the 440 at 113

I tried to get around the WI square Inch 220 rule buy using the 220 sized RBGs But then they went with height and width requirements Instead of the Square Inch measurements. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

The 660 sized square body grip is the 10-22 made by RBG… 10 inches tall and 22 inches wide. They are great in certain places and nice to have when needed.

I believe where regs read in linear inches you will always be better off going with the square bodygrip.
