Normally on my OTC tags I shoot first legal elk. So I’m not good at guessing scores. I have a special draw tag that opens the 15th and I’m trying to Do it justice by shooting a big bull. Any guesses on this guy I saw tonight

Can't tell for sure but looks like a decent 5x5. Looks fairly wide but a little light on mass and beam length. I'd say he's a shooter. There's a saying " don't shot something on the last day that you wouldn't shoot on the first day".

As good as the elk I saw in WY last week. The guide said "don't pass on an elk the 1st day that you would shoot the last day."

Hard to say, looking at those pics. But I’m seeing a whale tail past the royals on both beams, so I’m guessing it’s a 6x6. So I’m guessing low 300s.

You guys have great bulls up there. I'd look for something better. How long is your special season? In a week, he could be miles away looking for love.

Yep, under 300. Probably bigger ones around there somewhere.

Sounds like good advice to me.

I am a meat hunter. I wont attempt to guess a score. I will say thats a good bull. In CO it would be in the top 70% or so. Good luck.

I am a meat hunter as well. You can't eat the antlers. All the elk I shot were cows in CO.

Nice bill. Guessing young 5x5. Kinda narrow.
He'd score breakfast lunch dinner and snacks here.
I believe in the 1st you see is YOURS unless there's more than one and you can take your pick at that moment.

He's definitely a 6x , and I'd be really surprised if he hit 300

It really depends on the hunt , some great stories and memories to be made .......who cares how many inches

Special tag and rut is just starting, you can find better.
Start watching for cow groups and a big bull will be with them.
Better yet get a cow call and see what you can call out of the timber.

I'd wait a bit if your season is long enough. Rut should get really hot and heavy in a week or so.
Rifle during the rut would be a fun hunt.

Good luck and let us know how it goes !!!
