We do currently export surplus oil. The world price is so high, the owners of the oil (not the government) sell it to the highest bidder. That is business, not government. Our government buys its oil from our private businesses.

Compare the price of oil to the price of gold. Do you think we can go to South Africa and buy cheap gold? Of course not. The price is global. Same for lots of commodities. Traded on a world market.

We could do as Venezuela does and nationalize the oil industry and sell it in the US for a loss. Not working very well for them is it?

"One of the Trump administration's biggest environmental rollbacks suffered a stunning setback Wednesday, as a decades-long push to drill for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge ended with a lease sale that attracted just three bidders — one of which was the state of Alaska itself.

Alaska's state-owned economic development corporation was the only bidder on nine of the parcels offered for lease in the northernmost swath of the refuge, known as the coastal plain. Two small companies also each picked up a single parcel.

Half of the offered leases drew no bids at all.

"They held the lease in ANWR — that is history-making. That will be recorded in the history books and people will talk about it," said Larry Persily, a longtime observer of the oil and gas industry in Alaska . "But no one showed up."

The sale generated a tiny fraction of the revenue it was projected to raise."

Looks like socialism is alive and well in Alaska with 7 out of 9 leases bought by the STATE,

This is true, however when the Biden was campaigning he said on multiple occasions that he will end fossil fuel use. That sends a signal to producers that it isn't wise to invest in production or exploration.
Lots of money is spent by the oil companies before drop number one comes out of the ground.

So while you are correct Charles that the market dictates price government action effects what the producers do and plan for and thus effects the global market.

If the US would drill for their own oil, the price of gasoline would drop like a rock. We have more oil then Saudi Arabi. The reason we have high oil prices is because OPEC and RUSSIA are regulating the amount of oil coming out of the ground. That Charles, is why the price of gasoline is high and now its why it will go higher. That Charles is due to dementia Joey's policies. Dementia Joey's policies directly affect the global market. If you were an oil company would you invest in US oil leases after seeing what dementia Joey is getting by with? The answer is NO!

The problem with our oil is it is deep and very expensive to get to. We already used up all the easy to get to cheap stuff.

The Saudis can dig a posthole for a new cross fence and hit oil. Their oil is not deep and they have lots of it.

The problem is the leftard voters buy bus passes, bikes and skate boards. Price of fuel means little to them.

Look north and let's get that pipe in the ground. We'll add a couple 797's, some more D11's and a couple of shovels. We'll keep that pipe full.

As a post stated previously, don't forget not only did sniffy rescind oil leases he also made it illegal to transport LNG in rail cars.

That's two fossil fuels he is drastically limiting and reducing.

So the question you have to ask is "Why?"

The biden crime syndicate has some big money tied up in natural resources associated with car battery production. I will bet my house on that.

He's a selfish tottering old fool who doesn't give a whit about anyone but himself and his "dr" wife and druggie son. He would watch it burn down if he could make another million.

Again, hope you fools who contributed to this are proud of yourselves.

Idiots!!!

I saw gas prices go up 36 cents from $3.339 to $3.699 here in Green Bay this afternoon. Sometime between 1 and 4:30. Luckily I found a station that wasn't as quick with the gouge and filled up at $3.339.

One realization after reading this thread is, times are still too good.

Hopefully the next couple years will see even higher prices for everything.

LOL, our new Oprah anointed Governor will see to.that here.

In office 6 months, went from a HUGE surplus, to an nticipated 250 million deficit next year, and 500 million the following year, and worse beyond that.

Too many fat people are still full. When people are hungry, they will change their minds. Until then we will still have half the population who thinks things are good.

All those new electric cars will be coming out and if gas is $10 you will be free to buy the electric cars and it will be your choice. That's being forced fed a free market !

You would have to be a fool to think that this administrations energy policies, and Bidens promise to end fossil fuel use, is having no effect on the global market and what we paying at the pump. But, it is far more than the price of gas, as high fuel prices inflate the cost of everything else produced and transported to the manufacturer and end user.

Those EV's are already out and sitting in car lot's waiting for buyers. Apparently demand has not met expectations so government subsidies will continue to increase, along with artificially inflated fuel prices, until that breaking point is reached.

Some of you need to do some research. Three new wells a mile west of me. Survey crew coming to plot a new well site a 1/2 mile to the east. The investment in oil hasn't stopped in ND.
