In warmer weather, say one week prior to opening day of the season - what do you guys use for pre-baiting fisher sets? I have seen people use fish, but that must taint rapidly in the warmer weather.

Nail or wire a whole beaver carcass to the trunk of a big spruce about 2 foot from the ground, then build a cubby around it and roof with thick spruce boughs.
Then build a snare fence out both sides of the trunk about 15 feet each side with 3 or 4 snares on each wing.Put a foothold at the cubby, and a couple marten boxes nearby.
Catch all kinds of fur there on a 4-5 day check.

But follow your local laws in case you are not allowed to trap that efficiently where you are..

No I dont make sets for wolf in moose yards.
Dont need downtime like that on the line.
I did snag a caribou once by an antler on a wolf trail snare set on a beaver dam.
Releasing him was like playing hockey, lol

I've nevah pre baited for Fisher. They will find the beaver bait

We only have the month of December to trap fisher. It use to be a limit of 15...then 10..then 5..now just 2.

My fisher cages haven't been used in years...why bother.

Whats the fisher limit in Minnesota ?

Does anyone know the reason for the no bones rule? I doubt anyone is boning out the fawns or beaver that they normally eat.

Our bears are used to eating diapers and have soft pallets. We don't want them choking on a bone and dying. That would beat the State of MN out of the $43 tag or what ever it is.

I have nothing clever to put here.

why bother? here it's a novelty season, 7 days no quota (gripe all you want about that) but living on the norther prairie having an opportunity to trap a primarily woodland creature is an opportunity ... and here I thought you live in a free state.. I jest.. laugh

as to the OP, I've baited fischer starting in early November with a camera with season starting last week of November (average date) what I experienced that once they find the bait they stay on it but....... it took night time lows in the single digits to keep them regular.. just my experience here.... I have pictures so it happened. laugh

Our adirondack season opens and closes too early ( November). We have no catch limit. I don't like to catch unprime fisher, so I hold off until mid month. I start pre baiting when the season opens, without a trap.I primarily use a quarter of beaver with a turkey feather as an attractor. We don't have bear baiting in New York, We used to rot down smelt, but the bears gave me too much trouble and so I gave that up.

So when a bear drags one of my trapped beaver back in the brush and eats it, I wonder if he's breaking the law?
