Driving to St Croix Falls WI to a job site, listening to KQRS on the radio when it was all happening.

I was a 2nd year apprentice Ironworker timing rods for delta steel on the 2nd expansion ot the Princeton Toyota plant. Boss brought a paper around Toyota put out there said the time a plane hit the first tower and the 2nd I don't remember it it said they had fallen. And it said nothing about an attack. We went back to work. I did notice no plans in the sky. I didn't truly understand what happend untill I got home and my girlfriend ( now my wife) had the TV on and they played the plans hitting and them fall just about on a loop


Then we invaded Iraq that had nothing to do with it even by their story!!!? Lots of things about that time never made since or added up. We lost a lot of freedom with the patriot act though.

I was checking corn on section 19. I remember the exact spot in the edge of the field I was at when I came over the radio. My twins were only a few months old and I was to chicken to leave them and go to war. I think about it everyday. This is getting old and has a few bubbles in it but it reminds me every morning when I leave the garage of all the men that gave their lives over the last 20 some years.

Working along side the Brooklyn / Queens Expressway running a backhoe, working with a crew on a gas leak. It was a beautiful cool September day as we watched in horror, papers from the towers were like snow as the wind came out of the Northwest that morning. Very hard to forget that day. Only had three years & one month to retirement, couldn't wait to get away from the city.

Was about 10 minutes from home.
Got home and wife said 2 planes had hit the towers.
I asked did they collide in mid-air and then hit the towers?
She said no they were several minutes apart.
Right then I knew it was deliberate.

In my classroom watching the whole thing unfold all day with my students. Retired but taught it every year, showed the videos, and explained why we should always be vigilant.

I was on a siding job with my dad & 2 uncles I was only a Deputy Coroner at the time. I was listening to a cardiac call in my response area it wasn't sound very good. They requested a helicopter but was informed that we were under a full ground stop. I told dad something was wrong then the homeowner came out and asked if we knew what was going on.. he then let us in his home to watch the news. I got the call for the cardiac pt that's when the homeowner and I decided we weren't going to work on him home for a few days. Remember driving the I49 listening to the radio reports until we made home. Near empty highway very empty sky and the sound of panic everywhere

I turned on the TV to the first tower in smoke then watched the 2nd plane go in and that is when it really hit me , this is no accident.

moments later the reports of the pentagon came in

then there was absolutely no doubt

and we were just left wondering how many more what was next

I was at work that morning about three hundred yards away from the runway where Mohamed Atta started the first leg of his journey toward the World Trade Center. He flew right past me.

My wife called me at work and told me there was something big going on. That was the first I heard of it.

Just moved back home from Mississippi, and was at Kiwi fence going through high tensile fence school. When my buddy from high school who worked there came outside and told us a plane hit the first tower. We went inside and watched the second one hit.

I was on the phone taking orders from Trappers. By 1 pm the phones went dead. The one thing I will always remember how quite everything got. The shop was next to an airport. The following morning We could hear this awful rumbling low tone but going thru your body. I was told by a USAF vet. That is heavy aircraft movement. That I will never forget.

This and that there was absolutely no air traffic. No smoke trails from commercial aircraft and absolutely no air traffic at all. The sky’s were dead!

I was working graveyards and didn't know it had happened until I heard it on my truck radio on the way to work. That was a long night not knowing if there was more to come.

BvrRetriever I remember that so well sitting at the cabin around the fire with family a couple of nights later and no planes in the sky. Can usually see a couple but nothing. It was so weird.
