Has anyone had any experience with fresh preserved rattler as a lure base or bait? I've done a lot of testing on aged/rotted rattler for both canines and cats and I have my own conclusions. But just started fooling around with fresh preserved stuff. I have some preliminary results that seem too good to be true, so I'm interested in whether others have a similar experience.

I’m interested in this post. I too have rotted them down for lure but wondered if fresh might be good.

Tracy, I know if you caught that cat live, my wife would pay you double what it’s worth to have it here on the property. She hates rattlers. Lol.

From what I hear, you aren't too fond of them yourself. :-)

That wasn't my video, but my own initial testing with the fresh rattlers is encouraging. I'm not prepared to make a blanket statement yet because so far my testing is limited to summer weather conditions. Give me another 4 weeks and we will see if the FAS in the snake meat increases its appeal.

Tracy, I formulated a rattlesnake based lure and tested last season with very promising results. Part of the base was of fresh snake and the other was of the slightest tainted snake. Two other ingredients were added along with it. I was very impressed!

EJ: I had the same thoughts of using both my aged snakes and some fresh. Apparently geniuses DO think alike. :-)

LOL! Wiley Carrol would put a snake in a soup can, burry it and catch coyotes. Thats why my snake that is aged is a very slight age. No more than 3day taint. Coyotes sure liked it. Will do more testing this season.

Behead them first. First one I ever worked with I stretched out on a table by pulling on both ends and stuck a fang in my finger. It was sore a few days.

You’ve not been lied to. Lol. I hate those jokers. I’m not afraid of them but I don’t like them! Danger noodles.

Is this Fatty Acid Scent? or something else? Thanks.

Yes, fatty acid. If you skin a snake that's in good shape, you'll see they have large pockets of fat on their carcass.

Would those giant snakes in Florida work? Might be a way for those boys to put a few dollars in their pockets.
