Weird, I had a damaged one (wrecked it pulling it off the board) and still got 8 bucks for it. It was a December Large. One of my coon was 7 or 8 bucks (xxl) but the rest of the smaller ones were under $1.5.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens when the ranch mink are gone. Groney said we kinda need those or the fashion industry will turn to a different product.

What Shakeyjake said about the fur Industry.
No One with money Is going to go around wearing a rat coat. Coyote and fox coats make the wearer look overly large. Most of your other furs are hard to match.
With ranch raised fur they all look a like with same texture and same color and they are larger then wild mink.
If the ranch fur Industry dies so does the wild fur Industry.

I hope the ranch mink industry doesn't die, it's been so good for me the last 10 years. Apparently, it is finally dying now and it's a good thing according to both FHA ad Groeny. I think. confused

P.S. I especially appreciate the part where the ranch mink industry bankrupted NAFA. Thanks!

Why do you all keep trapping if you get such poor prices for your effort?
I would go work at Mc Donalds if I got poor prices like you guys say you get.
I have had more orders for fur articles this past month than I ever have, and have recently raised my prices to reflect inflation. Also, nuisance beaver calls starting to ramp up again.
Fur market both for finished product and raw fur articles that we have here are definitely on the rise.Nuisance beaver calls, although less this summer are starting to ramp up now.
The bonis is humming, nuisance beaver traps are in the truck and partridge season opens today-just how I like it..
You can flip burgers if you want, thats not for me.

Boco your not selling those goods through FHA. And If you ever sat down and figured labor costs you would probably be In the hole.

Don't know about you but I'm catching $10.00 rats and $500.00 beaver and I don't have to sell them and I don't even have to skin them. Then of coarse I have $500.00 and $300.00 set up fees at these locations. Then of coarse I'm getting those $10.00 wood chucks.
Trapping like that Is making me money. And I'm less then 10 miles from the house.

Thats chump change compared to finished fur articles and way less work. And I know for a fact because I do both nuisance and manufacture.
The point that went over your head is that when you are in the retail and manufacturing buisness you have a direct window into the demand.
Demand for fur is definitely on the rise.

I'm a trapper..NOT a clothes maker.

Nuisance trapping has been the only way to make money in the southern US for years now. I still skin amd put up the marketable pelts. That adds a little more $$ for the work. If the wild fur market ends I'll just pitch em all in the bone pit....and increase my service charge a little.

Here in the southern US we have been on the very edge of no fur market for a while now...it ain't nothing new here.

Beav if I wasn't making money manufacturing products, why would be doing it ? For the fun of sewing crap together?

Each 60 plus inch beaver when made into a product will equate to around $500 to $700 in product. Two hats out of the back fur and mitt liners out of the belly fur.
Tanning is $40. Maybe add another $40 in other material. Labor altogether maybe 10 to 12 hours for three products?

I think you garment guys would be further ahead money wise buying pelts to sew rather than the time/money invested harvesting them???? That Alaskan and Canada fur has some exotic stuff compared to us southerners.

I am a trapper first and foremost,I got into manufacturing as a way to increase profits from the fur I trap.
I got into it accidentally when people started buying stuff I was wearing.
I build inventory of tanned fur when each particular fur species is low at auction or not in fashon, and ship to auction the raw fur species when they are high.
I harvest plenty of fur off the land, why would I buy fur.?
I sell fur not buy fur.
I also tan some fur and sell some tanned fur(both factory tanned and self tanned) to all the other local people who make fur articles for their own use as well as to sell.

I also barter fur for services and goods in the local economy.
Trapping is key to it all and I have enjoyed the free life in the bush on the land and the lifestyle that goes with cabin and camp life.

I agree on some pelts . When trappers or Auctions are selling good 60 inch plus beaver for under $40. I can't trap them for that. Probably why Groeny was mentioning the cottage industry in the U.S. is only market for many items.

I can.
It doesnt cost anything to trap beaver when you are already out on the land doing all the day to day stuff.I'm going out to blast a few partridge tomorrow, and I got a call today to trap some nuisance beaver right along the way I am going to hunt the next few days.
All gravy baby.

What ever Boco. The other 98% of trappers on this forum aren't making and selling fur products. And that's a good thing for you and Dirt.

And they arnt trapping 500 dollar grounhogs either so whats your point?
There is more than one way to market fur when prices slump and you want to continue living the good life on the land trapping fur.

Sometimes, the only thing it costs me is about 5 minutes of my time on my way to work, and maybe 45min if I want to board it in the evening.
Almost like seeing a $50 bill tumbling down the shoulder of the road…..lol

That may take a while, SAGA just fessed up to having 8.5 million mink in the cooler and likely has more than that. Kopenhagen has a BUNCH, but they aren't saying how many. At least not at the moment.

Groeny seemed to think within a year most of the mink would be used up And if it wasn’t for no market in the Ukraine they would have already been gone.
