Do those squirrels not climb the tree and sit on the branches waiting for you to shoot them?

Red squirrels here are pretty easy to get! You must have tame or not hunted squirrel. Here they are gone in a flash when they see you on public land. But they get hunted hard by shotgun shooters.

My grandpa would turn me loose with his old lever action and ask me how many squirrels I wanted to clean. If I said 4, he handed me 4 rounds. And we are talking .22 shells. My family would have frowned upon shooting squirrel with a shot gun.
He couldn't walk much by the time I was around, but I learned a lot from that old man. I hope someday I can be half the grandpa that he was for me.

I was already tearing up a bit seeing that pile of fox squirrels, and reading the story about taking the ole man out, and the back and forth ribbing about who shot the squirrels, but when you brought up your grandpa, that did me in. I too, hope that someday. I will be half the grandpa that mine was. I still have vivid dreams of him so real that when I wake up, I can't believe that he isn't there. He meant the world to me. And still does.

They don’t get hunted here. The grouse hunters will pick a few off for fun. Probably every kid out grouse hunting gets to shoot one or two. Or 10. My days of shooting them are over. I enjoy watching them sitting on a Jackpine or red pine tree branch like a ball with their tail curled up. There is a lot of them!

Jalstat we have plenty of grey's we get into them more so around my area when accorn hit the ground, just starting to have that happen now. The Farm we went to has a ton of walnuts that's more of the fox squirrels that cut those. We seen some grey's but they are also more wild and hard to catch up with them with .22s before they are gone 6 trees down In a flash. And I'm to fat and slow to chase them down We use to use dogs, I sold my dog because I didn't get him out much and he just needed hunted. I miss the dogs but actually sneaking through the timber real slow with dad was enjoyable and been a while since we have done it that way. I actually sold my last dog to a guy on here. I'm glad I did so he gets to see more woods time. I remember being the dog when I was little, lol sneak as quiet as a young kid could be when dad see one on the ground he would point it out I would take off running to chase it up a tree. We loss more then we shot that way but I think dad knew no way I was quiet enough to sneak up on it and figure maybe I get one dumb enough to go sit on a fork of a tree and feel safe. I eventually learn to be sneaky. And be still turkey hunting was introduced into my life and dad took that serious. My dad isn't that old only 62, but I know one day this won't be possible, so I try as much as possible to do things with him, and now that my son is big enough to pack a gun and enjoys hunting I want him to get as much time in with his grandpa as possible, all my grandpa's were passed away before I was born other then my great grandpa and he was to old to go hunting, we did fish some. So I know how that feels not to have any storys with them so I want cam to have as many and learn as much as he can from dad.

He couldn't walk much by the time I was around, but I learned a lot from that old man. I hope someday I can be half the grandpa that he was for me. I learned to hunt squirrels with a .410. Lots of small patches of timber next to farm buildings and such around here where using a .22 might not be a good idea. I will hunt squirrels with a rifle now, but often pass on shots that are "iffy" on direction or background. My dad started me on squirrel hunting. I wish he was around to take hunting today like you did, salemtrapper.

52C that picture of a litle pile of squirrel got me a going so yeah. I know exactly what ya mean.
As far as my grandpa, the first time I heard Randy Travels sing [I thought that] He walked on the water I became convinced that the writer of that one and I had the same grandpa. He had passed away a year earlier, I got dam much sweat in my eyes I almost wrecked about 3 rows of round bales with and Allis 180 diesel (open top).
